Publisher's summary

A year ago few people had heard of ISIS - today they are a major terrorist threat.

Despite numerous warnings from intelligence services, ISIS' rise to power has left countries around the world floundering for solutions. Today we face a threat that is more violent, more powerful, and financially stronger than ever before. In this audiobook journalist Benjamin Hall will provide insights by answering the basic questions we still don't have the answers to: Who are they? Where did they come from? How are they so successful so quickly? How can they be stopped?

By embedding himself behind enemy lines, Hall provides a riveting narrative based on firsthand experience and personal interviews. He goes beyond the vicious jihadis to reveal a generation of chaos and uncover a volatile region engulfed in turmoil. Hall reveals why ISIS is a problem that will define the Middle East - and the West - for decades to come.

Very good overview

Astonishingly accurate discribtions of affairs but fortunately details of sickening beheadings and executions were left out.

Exciting yet profoundly sad

This is a story all should hear. I had to continually jerk myself back to the knowledge that this is the news and not just a story. The book was extremely well written and the narration quite emotional, I had a hard time tearing myself away from it. Something needs to be done the author is right, if more people know about the real frightening truth, maybe something will happen.

A good summary of headlines

Inside ISIS is a good introduction for a new comer and will give the reader a basic grasp of the group. The book does not explore many topics in depth.
Pros:
- Short and readable
- Author recounts his personal experiences, which adds a unique character to some passages

Cons:
- The book is overtly political at times.
- The book is padded by in depth discussion of individual beheading victims and personal stories that don't always contribute to the reader's grasp of ISIS
- The narrator over pronounces words and over emphasizes common acronyms. VBIED becomes V-B-I-E-D, which gets annoying. Kenya becomes Keen-ya.

Naive Republican apologetic

There are some useful insights in this book but they are overshadowed by the author's blinkered commitment to US imperialism and the Republican agenda for military intervention.

The author shows some awareness of the role of the Saudis and Turkey in the ISIS phenomenon but entirely fails to see that the U.S. has played any role in ISIS' creation or any role in the chaos across the Middle East. I think he's still waiting for Iraq to thank the U.S. for getting rid of their weapons of mass destruction.

The author advocates ever-increasing US military involvement in the Middle East. He should stick to telling stories about activities on the ground which are enlightening
