Fun with ghosts

I enjoyed the way the stories were presented. The stories were interesting so I would like to read more from this author. The narrator did a great job.

Entertaining nonfiction accounts, not “creepy stories.”

This reminds me of my two favorite kinds of “I Can Read” books from elementary school, only suitable for all ages. There were the spooky story books with the folk stories and the “jump scare” endings. Then, there were the books like, “Real Ghosts,” nonfiction stories delivered report-style, but with some interesting biographical information about the characters, and fun details about locations and the era. This book is the nonfiction variety. A comparison to children’s books, when it comes to paranormal books, is not an insult, in my book. After that, the same material is often reported in a dry, less than engaging, manner. I hope you don’t take “report style nonfiction” to mean “boring.” The narrator does an excellent job. There are spooky sounds added to each chapter. The animated and spooky narration is what really makes this a great book for families and children, as well as adults of all ages. The stories are well-researched and documented, yet I haven’t heard most of them before. I have a whole bookcase filled with juvenile and adult paranormal books I have read, but had only heard one or two of these. There is one chapter that starts with the accidental death of an animal and continues in the same vein, so if you have a young listener, watch out for that one. Still, there is no gore or gratuitous violence. Older children could probably handle even the worst story (only the one jumps out at me). I loved the book, but I think it should have had a more accurate title. Because I was expecting a story format, I was disappointed at first. However, the more I listened, the more interesting I found it. I would like to see a book with both nonfiction cases and stories, combined. This is going to be saved as one of my favorite audiobooks for commutes, or evening listening.

Pretty good

I didn't find the stories as creepy as I'd hoped, overall. They're presented as more matter-of-fact and research-based than spine-tingling , though the narrator certainly makes the most of what he has to work with.

Interesting Collection of Bizarre stories

I thought this was an interesting collection of creepy and bizarre stories. I had heard of a few but for the most part I hadn't come across these which is rare for me. I usually listen to more horrifying stories and thought that these were more strange than actually creepy. It is definitely a good listen for those who enjoy paranormal accounts. Kevin Theis does a great job narrating documentary style books. His voice definitely adds to the telling of the book and removes the text book type feel that you can get with this style of book. I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher.
