Publisher's summary
After an epic and interrupted journey all the way from the snows of South Dakota, Jack Reacher has finally made it to Virginia. His destination: a sturdy stone building a short bus ride from Washington D.C., the headquarters of his old unit, the 110th MP. It was the closest thing to a home he ever had. Why? He wants to meet the new commanding officer, Major Susan Turner. He liked her voice on the phone. But the officer sitting behind Reacher’s old desk isn't a woman. Why is Susan Turner not there?
What Reacher doesn’t expect is what comes next. He himself is in big trouble, accused of a sixteen-year-old homicide. And he certainly doesn't expect to hear these words: ‘You’re back in the army, Major. And your ass is mine.’Will he be sorry he went back? Or – will someone else?

Story
My life was ordinary until three years ago when I was thrown out of a downtown hotel window. My name is Robbie Brownlaw, and I am a homicide detective for the city of San Diego. I am 29 years old. I now have synesthesia, a neurological condition where your senses get mixed up. Sometimes when people talk to me, I see their voices as colored shapes provoked by the emotions of the speakers, not by the words themselves. I have what amounts to a primitive lie detector.

Bit different, but same Reacher!
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Only to friends who enjoy this sort of genre
What was one of the most memorable moments of Never Go Back?
Busting out of prison.
Any additional comments?
This is a bit different to past Reacher stories and it is a complex plot which is slowly revealed. My favourite part of this was the naming of one of the hitmen "Baldacci'. Wonder if this was a swipe at Baldacci for the John Puller story which is a Reacher take off - so many similarities even in plot. However no-one can do the Reacher character like Child.
Enjoyed this story.

Complicated but entertaining
What did you love best about Never Go Back?
The interesting and complex storyline meant there were many twists and turns which were unpredictable.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Never Go Back?
Reacher approaching and meeting his daughter.
Have you listened to any of Jeff Harding’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Jeff Harding does a superb job of the Reacher series and this is no exception. Terrific performance.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
The past catches up with Reacher.

Maybe Reacher has finally "Jumped the Shark"
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
Enjoyable romp - but so far fetched that you had to conciously suspend disbelief within the first 15 minutes
What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?
The most interesting aspect was the slow reveal of the plot and motives. The least interesting was Reachers continuing indestructability. Really? He's over 50 and has the physique of an olympian athelete and the reactions of a cheetah on methamphetamine. He fells foes with one punch, maybe two. No room for self doubt or physical reality. Mind like a Russian chess player - with only two moves, considering only two possible outcomes . Lee Child , if he continues with this series would do better to take in to account the progression of time and give Jack a few more dimensions than Superman missing his cape.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
Nope.
Any additional comments?
Time for Reacher to grow up I feel.

puzzled by this one
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
No - Not many of my friends read Reacher books so I would recommend one of the earlier titles. e.g. The Enemy or Without Fail
What was one of the most memorable moments of Never Go Back?
the girl he meets in LA
What didn’t you like about Jeff Harding’s performance?
Dick Hill wasn't my favorite reader but he did manage richer emotional shading & color than Jeff Harding. Didn't find the performance of Never go Back very engaging.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
unlikely
Any additional comments?
I couldn't work out if it was the change of narrator or the book itself but the style of this book seemed different than the previous Reacher books. It seemed a little synthetic. Found myself wondering if a ghost writer had been employed who was copying the style of the "Reacher" brand without capturing some of the spirit of the early stories. It wasn't a bad story, at times I was truly gripped but it seemed different in character.

Did Lee Child actually write this book?
What was most disappointing about Lee Child’s story?
I've always enjoyed a 'bit of Reacher' but the last book wasn't much to write home about (in my opinion) and this one is even worse! I am listening to it thinking "come ON already, get on with it!". I won't be finishing it, in fact I'm about to take it off my player.
What didn’t you like about Jeff Harding’s performance?
I generally like Jeff Harding, but I kept hearing "Angel" and other female characters from Paul Wilson's books.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Boredom
Any additional comments?
If you are going to read the Reacher books, go for the earlier ones which were an exciting and interesting read.
