Love Dirk

Always good to read a NUMA chronicle.

Nice seeing how they got the team together

Overall, a creative plotline.

The plot line was overall very creative. The character development was good. The narration was outstanding, as is ALWAYS the case with Scott Brick. On the negative side, the writer could have evolved from using Neanderthal terms such as “wop“ when referring to the gentleman of Italian descent, or “Oriental“ which refers to objects, not people. I will give the author’s work another try when the next one comes out.

One of My All-time Favorites

This is Dirk's and Al's first story, although it was originally published third, I believe, after The Mediterranean Caper and Iceberg. It should, therefore, be read or listened to first because a character in this book is mentioned is subsequent ones. I love that what is started here carries on in the following books, at least until you get a ways out and certain "facts" start to alter.

I have been reading Dirk Pitt's adventures since I was 11 years old. I was VERY excited to see the earliest books FINALLY available here on Audible. Enjoy.

Great book

Enjoyed the story. Good departure from the usual story line. Can’t wait to hear the rest of the books.

Fast paced first Dirk Pitt novel

This is the first Dirk Pitt novel and it was better than I expected. Often early stories by top thriller novelists are a bit weak, but not this one. This is pure escapist thriller - completely unrealistic but loads of fun. You can tell that the book was written back in the early 1980’s and attitudes towards women were quite different. In this story Pitt is drawn into the mystery of a lost US missile submarine and a Bermuda Triangle type area located near Hawaii. Add in a mysterious beautiful woman, Dirk’s sidekick Al, a lot of action, and you have this story. It is very fast paced and a lot of fun. Not great literature but a very enjoyable read. Scott Brick was a great narrator.

Finally the beginning

I have all but the first four Dirk novel. Finally the first. No disappointment, the story as fantastical as all the rest but totally on the fringe of believable

One of Best Action Series Ever Written

Clive Cluster has amazing series all around. Been patiently waiting for the first few Dirk Pitt books to be released with Audible.
