Read it!

The reason I like James Petterson books is the risk of not liking it is as close to none. If you like the "Lake House" than you will love this book too and such get them together.

Rosemary's Baby meets E.T.

If my review heading intrigues you, perhaps this quirky tale will too. The narration is wonderfully done - perfect timbre, pitch and intonation for a story of this sort. This audiobook kept the whole family engaged for a seven hour road trip!

Still one of the best

Any additional comments?

I read this several years ago, I would say almost a decade ago. I was heading from Charleston, SC to Yorktown, VA and was immediately put off on the who flying kids things. I had decided to shut if off after the first couple of minutes....but I continued to listen and listen and before I knew it I had finished the entire book. I like this first book much more than the teenage version that Mr. Patterson later does...the maximum ride series that, although a different story, is essentially the same story.

Beginning of a new series?

For all of you Alex Cross fans, read this with an open mind. James Patterson has created a brand new story line that still holds excitement, intrigue and a fast pace. "Winged children?" you may say, but give this book serious consideration. I listened to this straight through! This book is followed by Lake House, Patterson's newest publication. If you are looking for a series again, this may be for you.

Recommend this Listen!

When Patterson's Lake House book was announced, I assumed it had something to do with last year's Beach House. However, when I read the summary of Lake House, I thought, "what a stupid story." I wanted to give it a chance and decided to start at the beginning with this book, "When the Wind Blows." I really, really enjoyed the story. Far-fetched -- yes, but I loved the characters. My only wish was that Audible would have offered the unabridged version. I signed on tonight to purchase and download Lake House, but just read the terrible customer reviews it has received in the last few weeks. I'll probably still go for it just to find out what's next with Max and her friends, but am a little skeptical. Listen to this one though--It's good writing and a good narrator.

Eye Opener

In addition to telling a great story, When the Wind Blows makes you wonder about what is really being genetically developed behind closed doors. The ying/yang between good and evil aspects of genetically altered species is intriguing. Instead of being adverse to the evil creators, the beauty that they created, winged beings, is almost awe inspiring. It is easy for one to quickly forget the number of trial and errors that were undertaken before the final product was perfected. And, the rescue and safety of the winged children is the lasting overtone of the story and keeps you coming back to listen again and again.

I Enjoyed the Story

Who knew Patterson could do a decent job of Sci-FI? It read well without inordinate amounts of detail. While that may seem choppy, it's just moving the story along. This is the story of BAD doctors trying to do good. Oh look! A sequel...
