Publisher's Summary

Harry Bosch searches for the truth in the new thriller from NYT best-selling author Michael Connelly.

Harry Bosch is back as a volunteer working cold cases for the San Fernando Police Department and is called out to a local drugstore where a young pharmacist has been murdered. Bosch and the town's three-person detective squad sift through the clues, which lead into the dangerous, big business world of pill mills and prescription drug abuse.

Meanwhile, an old case from Bosch's LAPD days comes back to haunt him when a long-imprisoned killer claims Harry framed him and seems to have new evidence to prove it. Bosch left the LAPD on bad terms, so his former colleagues aren't keen to protect his reputation. He must fend for himself in clearing his name and keeping a clever killer in prison.

The two unrelated cases wind around each other like strands of barbed wire. Along the way Bosch discovers that there are two kinds of truth: the kind that sets you free and the kind that leaves you buried in darkness.

"Bosch is still a great character"

This book includes both Harry Bosch and Mickey Haller. Even though he's retired and working part-time, Harry proves he"s still got it.

    "Two kinds of Narrators"

I think Michael Connelly gets better with every book. This timely story encompassing the opioid crisis as well as the corruption of the law by unscrupulous lawyers provides a great platform for his characters to really develop and entertain. This extremely brief review as prompted by another reviewer who simply hated the narrator, Titus Welliver and I felt I had to come to his defense. I simply love this guy's voice and tempo. I feel he gives the series a distinctive and welcome tone.

    "Love Bosch"

Titus Welliver is not only a superb actor, but the perfect reader for Michael Connelly’s Bisch series. Michael is unequalled as an author

    "Gripping"

Michael Connelly paces his stories in a way that holds the readers attention all the way through the book. Another excellent story here!!

As the actor that played Harry Bosch in the Amazon show, it was a delight to envision him acting the role through this reading!

    "Great restaurant recommendations."

Establishment recommendations aside, Harry Bosch is always a joy. This installment is no different, a must read for any Bosch fan.

"Each one is better than the last"

You wouldn't think it was possible, but each of these Bosch stories is better than the one before. Bringing in Titus Welliver as narrator certainly helped. He not only plays Bosch on the Amazon series brilliantly, but he's a brilliant narrator, too. A lot of actors are not good narrators -- they over-perform instead of letting the book carry the story. Not Welliver. He's about as good as you get. Enough emotion to make it feel real, but not so much that you lose the sense of being in the book.

This book has a GREAT ending and you will love it, but i'm not going to tell you what it is. I really enjoyed this one -- even more than the last three. Can they keep getting better? I hope so!

    "Outstanding good read"

Well, some of his books are a little square but this one is really really round! One of Connelly's best reads!

Another great story by Connelly and narration by Welliver. The only problem now is we need to wait for the next story. Thoroughly enjoyable.
