Publisher's summary

This is the remarkable debut mystery from the winner of the 2003 St. Martin’s Press/Private Eye Writers of America Prize for Best First Private Eye Novel.

Investigator Wayne Weston is found dead of an apparent suicide in his home in an upscale Cleveland suburb, and his wife and six-year-old daughter are missing. Weston’s father insists that private investigators Lincoln Perry and Joe Pritchard take the case to exonerate his son and find his granddaughter and daughter-in-law. As they begin to work, they discover there is much more to the situation than has been described in the prevalent media reports. There are rumors of gambling debts and extortion, and a group of Russians with ties to organized crime who don’t appreciate being investigated—a point they make clear with baseball bats.

With some assistance from newspaper reporter Amy Ambrose, Perry and Pritchard believe they are making swift progress. But then they are warned off the investigation by a millionaire real estate tycoon and the FBI. Just when they feel they are closing in on a possible source of answers, another murder forces them to change direction in the case.

Good , but not great

This book is okay , but you can find all the clichés (plot and characters) of the usual detectives' thrillers. A bit of deja vu ; I was expecting better from a young author like Koryta.

Fabulous!

Where does Tonight I Said Goodbye rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Top 3

What did you like best about this story?

The character development was excellent. I was engaged from the start. Many twists and turns in the story, but not enough to make me scream with frustration. The ending was a big surprise that I never even considered.

What does Scott Brick bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He brought the characters to life. Excellent ability to change his voice for different characters and was very consistent. Very well done.

Good story, well told.

This book was well done. I enjoyed the zig - zagging plot most of the time. Scott Brick was ferric as always!

Move over Coben and DeMille--this guy is great!

The missing wife and child, a la Harlan Coben, the humorously wisecracking detective, a la Nelson DeMille, narrated by Scott Brick--this author has it all!

I had never heard of Michael Koryta, but I am definitely a new fan. I longed for the return of Coben's Myron Bollitar, with his witty repartee and DeMille's fabulously articulate wisecracking protagonists, but my wait is over. This book is well-written, well crafted, humorous, has a great plot, and depth of characters. It even has a "surprise" twist at the end. What more could you want?

It takes a lot for me to put an author in the same class as Nelson DeMille, but this guy's got it. You end up really knowing the characters, and it never gets slow. I highly, highly recommend it to anyone who wants mystery taken to the next level.

Wow

I got this book because it was a first in series and on sale. I loved it. I could not stop listening to it. I had earphones on and had it going while I was working, as I went to sleep, etc. You get the idea. I will add the others to listen to. I am a great fan of Scott Brick and really enjoy his presentations. I usually search for new books with him as narrator. Thanks to Michael for allowing Scott to do the job.

Scott Brick made it as good as it could be.

Another great performance by the man, Scott Brick! Story wasn't memorable and many parts predictable but all in all it was ok. Not Harlan Coben good but ok.
