Publisher's summary

Abbey of Ruac, rural France: A medieval script is discovered hidden behind an antique bookcase. Badly damaged, it is sent to Paris for restoration, and there literary historian Hugo Pineau begins to read the startling 14th-century text. Within its pages lies a fanciful tale of a painted cave and the secrets it contains - and a rudimentary map showing its position close to the abbey. Intrigued, Hugo enlists the help of archaeologist Luc Simard and the two men go exploring.

When they discover a vast network of prehistoric caves, buried deep within the cliffs, they realize that they've stumbled across something extraordinary. And at the very core of the labyrinth lies the most astonishing chamber of all, just as the manuscript chronicled. Aware of the significance of their discovery, they set up camp with a team of experts, determined to bring their find to the world. But as they begin to unlock the ancient secrets the cavern holds, they find themselves at the center of a dangerous game. One "accidental" death leads to another. And it seems that someone will stop at nothing to protect the enigma of the tenth chamber.

Leaves Dan Brown's "INFERNO" in the Dust

A Page Burner if you love historical, archeological mystery/thrillers. Didn't want this book to end. I am an artist, so all the cave paintings and incredible descriptions, left me wanting more........I had just finished Dan Brown's "Inferno" and was disappointed by all the "travel babble" and "running around" that took place as I found it very distracting from the story line and lost interest in the book at some point.

I read the reviews on this book, purchased it, read it, and I am now a Glenn Cooper fan, awaiting another "page burner".

Great idea for a story but....

First I loved the description . Had all the makings of an excellent read.

Unfortunately the writing is not up to snuff. The dialogue moved the story along but there was not a single phrase or sentence that was worth lingering over and savoring. In fact much of it made me cringe. There was one section where two people were described as "star crossed lovers". This sort of hackney-ism is sprinkled throughout the text. It got to the point that I just wanted to get through it and be done.

The narration was a bit off as well. It sometimes seemed stilted and wooden and just a tad too slow. Although to be fair, it could be the narrator was wincing at the writing as well.

Sigh... hopefully off to greener pastures.

The History of Southern France done perfectly!

Where does The Tenth Chamber rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Easlioty in the top 10. A wonderful performance.

Who was your favorite character and why?

The leader of the prehistoric tribe was great.

What does Henri Lubatti bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Wow.Where to start. This is one of the best performances of the year. His accents, his correct pronunciation, his timing, this is the best. Revel in this.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Not really, but it sure had me hooked.

Any additional comments?

Don't delay and don't use other Cooper poor reviews to steer you wrong. This is a stunner,a and well worth the credit!

The narrator drove me nuts

Where does The Tenth Chamber rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

It is slightly above average

What did you like best about this story?

The archaeological tie in.

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

Yes

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

It's ergot time!

Any additional comments?

I am writing this review to comment on the reader- performer- narrator.
I almost could not tolerate listening to this book due to the performance. The over the top french pronunciation of the french characters names and towns and so forth annoyed me to the point of distraction. I do not speak french and I appreciate the inclusion of a bit of an accent, but here it was so thick and seemingly overdone that I still have no idea what the names of a few of the characters were. Almost returned the book because of this.

Most entertaining!!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

There are strange and long explanations but they pan out. The means justifies the end.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Hugo and Luc offer an amazing relationship. But all the characters lead me on.

What about Henri Lubatti’s performance did you like?

Amazing characterization. Female to female and male to male . Great job!

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

I'm not talented enough to describe the amazing characters, motives, and results. The book is worth it and so complete. An adventure!

Any additional comments?

I would love to meet some of these characters. The mistriss of the Abbey at the end is my favorite. She suffered and loved.

You can only suspend believe so far.

While the description of this book may drag you in, the secret of the tenth chamber is kind of odd. The narration switches back and forth between present, medieval, and prehistoric times so if you are not paying close attention you wind up being lost at many chapters. People arrive in the book and then are killed off for no sensical reason. The reviews compare it to a Dan Brown book ( Davinci Code), but it is really not of that caliber.

While most books I purchase hook me and make me listen from beging to end, this one was almost a chore to get through it. I stopped and went to a different book only to return when I ran out of listens on my monthly subscription. If you want better suspense, listen to any one of the Harry Hole series (Jo Nesbo) rather than this. If you want to listen to well written book try Dickens or Middlesex.

Formulaic

Unfortunately the story is predicable, I kept drifting away from listening as it just didn't capture my interest sufficiently - disappointing.

Not a bad read.

I actually enjoyed the story. However, the narrator made me grit my teeth at times. When he was reading for certain characters, he wasn't bad, but the narration in general was just horrid. So bland and monotone, when it appears this gentleman actually is probably quite talented.

Interesting content but distracting narrator

The story was interesting, but convoluted. I got lost a few times and the narrator's overly French pronunciation of names and places had me confused about the characters. This might have been a better book of which to read than to listen.
