Publisher's Summary

Victor is the ultimate predator. He surfaces to kill, then disappears into thin air. But he's a disposable commodity for the powerful people he works for - both the good guys and the bad. And no one has his back. Especially now that doing black bag jobs for the CIA has put a target on his head....

Antonio Alvarez, a high-ranking US intelligence official, is determined to clean house and find the legendary killer who slipped away from him during an operation in Paris. There's only one person Victor can turn to for help: a lethal female assassin whose life he once saved. And now Victor wants her to return the favor - by killing him....

    "Victor the Assassin never disappoints!"

The Victor the Assassin series has an antihero rather than a hero as protagonist. The Final Hour is book 7 in this very popular espionage series. In Victor British author Tom Wood has developed a unique protagonist who treats killing for money as just as job. US and UK intelligence agencies hire him to kill their targets as they hire other assassins to kill him.

In The First Hour Victor is exhausted by the need to always be vigilant and would like to either retire of at the least get some time to rest. His idea is to stage his own death with the help of a female assassin.

For action and intense, sustained suspense the Victor series is as good as any of the novels of the espionage thriller genre. Fans of the genre are sure to enjoy the novels as the books also create ethical dilemmas for the reader or listener. I've often wondered why a British author like Wood would select an American like Rob Shapiro to narrates his novels. I suspect he expects the US to be the major market for his audio books. In any case Shapiro does a great job.

"Not the best in the series..."

This was definitely my least liked book in the series. Pretty bland. The story felt thrown together. Hopefully it sets us up to an incredible book 8.

    "Cabernet and Almonds ..."

This audiobook combines a fast-paced, very well-written tale of murder and suspense with one of the best narrators in the business. I had never before heard of Tom Wood or Rob Shapiro; I just took a chance because I needed to quickly select an audiobook for a trip. Wow, what a pair: Woods and Shapiro! Like a good cabernet and dark-chocolate almonds, I'm going in for seconds on these two!

    "Fantastic!"

YES! I have always been a fan, and this book does not disappoint. Great writing, great story, it flows well, and doesn't leave you wanting anything but more from the author.

"Come down to earth people with your 5 star reviews"

It was better than the last book - But that's not a very big reach..

The drama between Victor and Raven is a little much to listen to. Also - I hope the fight scenes between a Middleweight bad-A male assassin and a fly weight female assassin are done..

Anyway - I liked the first 3 books overall in this series - But I haven't been a big fan since...

    "Victor is FASCINATING!"

Every Victor book is absolutely fascinating, and just when you think you understand him, this character throws a curve ball. I was seriouly looking forward to him handling Phoenix, but what a decision! I just cannot get enough. How can someone so bad be so damn good!

Yeah...and for everyone reading a book about an assassin hacking people to death but are angry about a dog getting killed, get a life! I mean seriously?!!!

Tom Wood is an amazing author and this matchup with Shapiro is dynamite.

    "I love Victor!"

I just can't get enough of these stories! It's more than just the non-stop action. I love Victor's ruthlessly logical mind, his brilliant tactical precision, his sociopathic efficiency. Unlike other books in this genre, the things that Victor does are actually possible. The true-life realism and the fascinating magnetic personality of Victor keep me coming back again and again. I only wish these books were longer so I wouldn't blast through them so fast! Keep them coming please!

    "Good but not best"

A good story and a nice addition to Victor's evolving humanity. A little long on plot and short on action.

    "Well Writen"

Tom Wood can write a good story but his lead character Victor isn't a very likable character. I have listened to all the books in the series. In the first one Victor showed some humanity and there were glimpses of it in other books, enough to keep me interested in the character. All humanity is gone in this novel. It is well written and well read.
