Publisher's summary

What would you do if your world was suddenly thrown into chaos? Surrounded by death and destruction, would you be able to adapt and survive?

This thrilling new novel tells the story of a soccer mom turned soldier. Shay Donovan is separated from her family during an outbreak where millions of infected humans become enraged, destroying in their path and killing anyone they see. Shay finds herself in a brutal fight for her life in a desperate attempt to find her husband and two young daughters.

This novel, is much different than other zombie stories. Shay is an average American house wife, finds herself alone during an outbreak where those who are infected become enraged. Different from the zombies in The Walking Dead, these zombies can run, jump and climb. Shay is saved from certain death by a stranger and joins a group of survivors, L.A. to the mountains where they think they'll be safe.

But, they can't run and they can't hide as hordes of flesh-eaters hunt down the remaining survivors. Petrified of guns and violence, Shay is forced to step out of her comfort zone as she desperately searches for her family realizing that if she doesn't kill the zombies, the zombies will kill her. Shay finds herself in a world of kill or be killed and if she's going to survive, she must become a killer.

The novel also tells the story of Shay's husband, JT, a normal guy, and his friend Porter who is a Navy SEAL, as they attempt to escape the zombies with three little girls. Because these zombies can run, the men are forced to fight the flesh eaters as they seek to find refuge before winter sets in. The zombies aren't the only enemy, as other humans and Mother Nature herself make several attempts at their lives as the world literally crumbles around them.

The Enraged

The narration was good; actually, it was very good. But the story was like any other zombie story I have read in a book or seen on television. I kept waiting for something that would make this story standout, but nothing happened. I was also little annoyed with Shay's naiveté. I could understand it if she was completely oblivious to what was happening around her, but she was not. So there were moments when I wanted to shake some sense into her and tell her, "Wake up! Your life depends on it!"

Meh

I felt this book had potential but just didn’t quite make it. The characters were difficult to relate to and didn’t have realistic reactions imo. Pretty much the only reason I finished the book is Richard Rieman is an excellent narrator and I really love his work. Overall I was underwhelmed.

Scary and well done

I admit of all the disaster situations a pandemic freaks me out the most. Invisible viruses or bacteria that one can't see that can infect anyone. Maybe you are the few percent that can't get it as your isolated or perhaps immune. The rest of humanity ..... Not good

The main character Shay is a female and pretty average in many ways. Sort of just going through life day to day and then it all starts. She starts off taking a lot of chances to reach her goal of safety and keeping her family together. To get supplies she unknowingly puts her children at risk. She seems a bit in shock that it can all go so bad so fast as it does.

This audiobook is very intense and troubling as one contemplates what would a person do in such a situation. We have Police, Fire and Hospitals. We need food the market is nearby....so what could go wrong?

I was given this scary book to listen to by the author. A good listen and fun if you like the Genre. Sleep with the lights on and wash your hands a lot. Who knows it may help ....:>

My First Zombie Apocalypse Novel

While I enjoy the PA genre, I had never read a Zombie style book before now. Ty Wilde's story was pretty well written and Richard and Madeline did a great job breathing life into the characters.

To followers of ZA stories this would probably be received as an excellent tale, for me though I had a hard time suspending my scientific mind to enjoy the story without trying to get to the how and why's of it.

I have read several books about epidemics and their causes and I had a hard time determining if the Enrage was airborne, saliva borne or Blood borne. If it was blood or saliva borne Shay probably should have been infected multiple times. Also Shay seemed to have skills that did not match up with the character we started with. I am also not sure that the wife of a Navy Seal would be allowed to have no familiarity with firearms.

These kinds of paradoxes made the story hard for me to enjoy.

While I was given this book in exchange for a review, I have reviewed the book honestly to the best of my ability. I would never recommend a book to someone else if I would not purchase it myself

The Enraged

Decent zombie story. The female protagonist was a little whiny. I thought the narrators did an excellent job. I received this audiobook for free thru Audiobook Boom for my unbiased review.

Frustrating main character but overall good book

I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

So, I am really torn with how I feel about this book. I liked the concept for the zombies. They aren't the slow Walking Dead type. They are more the 28 Days Later zombies that move fast and are ferocious. To me, that is MUCH scarier than the slow shambling ones. That being said, the main character, Shay, is frustrating as hell. Sometimes she seems capable and strong, but other times she seems clueless and afraid. I struggled with how the author handled her character. The narration was very well done, which helped pull me through the story in spite of my frustrations with Shay's character. All in all, I did still enjoy the book, so I would be open to more should this become a series.

Good read, yet boring characters

As a huge post apocalyptic reader, this book was a great read. Yet the old story of men taking advantage of women, blah blah, some man being the hero seems like pages from yet another series....

Different take on a very popular genre

I very much enjoyed this series. I was taken aback when the narrators switched in a way I have not listened to yet. Usually when their is a male and female reader the voices switch every time the person switches. But this one was read mainly by Richard Rieman and when Shay spoke or thought Madeline Mrozek read her lines. It was great! I wasn't sure at first as it was different but it grew on me alot. Both narrators did an excellent job and I can't wait to hear more works from them!

The story picks up quickly and its not boring prezombie either, it keeps you on your toes and you learn about the character and how much she loves her family and her loyalty. As the story goes on you can't help but love her. But at the same time I wanted to throttle her for being so clueless when she could have prevented so much! But other than that the action in the story keeps you going, it never really slows down and when the book ended I was pretty much screaming in my head. I cannot wait until book 2. This was well written and for genre that is often over written and to copy cat this was very original in my opinion and I can't wait to see where the story takes Shay on her search for her family and the doctor on his search for a cure and why things happened the way they happened. There are so many questions left to be answered.
