Good story

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes - but start with his earlier books in this series first

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

No- it seemed to drag a bit.

Have you listened to any of George Guidall’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I prefer George Guidall over all other narrators.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

This is not the first book in this series I have read. So I knew what to expect. I guessed the surprise ending.

Daniel Silva's first 5-Stsr: The English Girl

I have listened to all the Gabriel Allon series Espionage-Adventure novels. Daniel Silva is remarkably consistent in the quality of his writing, (3.5-4,25 stars). I believe the author has exceeded my expectation with THE ENGLISH GIRL; which I would rate at 5-Stars. The story content is superior, it showcases current political upheaval in Russia, predicting Putin's Political Expansionistic desires. (KGB-Oil). As a counterpoint to the modern, he explores the ancient traditions practiced on the Island of Corsica. This all adds interesting texture to the standard conflict between Good -vs-Evil. There are even romantic entanglements to overcome to please readers that enjoy this dynamic. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys political-espionage thrillers.

Fabulous on all fronts

Wow! Daniel Silva, you are genius!

The best of the series so far. Story is amazing; narration is just about perfect; surprises are many. On top of all that, Silva's ability to write awesome dialogue is highlighted in this book.

I have come to really like Christopher Keller. And the goat is wonderful.
I don't know how Daniel Silva can keep making his next books better and better but he does. And with THE ENGLISH GIRL he is at the top of his craft.

Nice ending, too.

Another engrossing and exciting story from Silva

What did you love best about The English Girl?

The story is well-plotted and I admire how politically astute and up to date Daniel Silva is and how prescient are his predictions about Syria, Hezbollah, Iran, chemical warfare et al., but George Guidell brings the story to life. His reading is flawless and his talent for interpreting a story evidently limitless.

What other book might you compare The English Girl to and why?

Any book in this series by Silva will be rewarding for the listener.

Have you listened to any of George Guidall’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

He's batting a thousand. Brilliant talent.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Moved me where?

Any additional comments?

No.

I've listened to the Gabriel Allon series since book one. This has been my favorite by far. While enjoying others, this one just had a story and cast of characters that I devoured in a matter of days.

Gabriel's story takes huge strides

Gabriel Allon is finally aging, and finally realizing his human limitations. This story moves him around the board, and promises to change his career and family life. It is a great deal to accomplish in one book. The shows, as usual, an unwilling Gabriel called into action. But somehow he appears more human in this. By teaming up with former enemies who showed themselves to be as good as he was, he improves what the author tantalizingly alludes to as perhaps his last "secret" assassination assignment. All of Silva's books are excellent. It is interesting that he is allowing his protagonist to age and perhaps mellow. It will be interesting to see how far he carries that drift in subsequent books.
