Publisher's summary

The last thing Lady Katherine wants is to take the matchmaking job for Mrs. Burwick, whose daughter, Prudence, clearly does not want to be matched...until she realizes it provides her the perfect cover to investigate the string of robberies that have been taking place in the holiday town of Bath.

Katherine, her loyal maid Harriet, and her tenacious pug Emma soon find themselves knee-deep in troubled waters as they try to piece together the baffling clues to reveal the truth. To further complicate matters, Katherine's investigation is impeded by the incompetent detective hired by the Marquess of Bath to flush out the burglar.

Now Katherine must juggle advising Prudence on how "not" to land a duke, while she dives into the investigation in the hopes of narrowing down the suspects without making waves amongst the aristocracy, some of whom are her primary suspects. When the burglary attempts turn violent, Katherine must take drastic measures to ensure her detective career isn't all washed up before it even gets started.

The Round About Story

This was a cute story, but not as interesting as her murder mysteries. Too much circling around to wind up back in the beginning.

Ehhh

It was okay, it’s the regular fluffy, insubstantial cozy mystery that you read/listen to without absorbing.

Just okay

Katherine is a so called detective. However in this book the only clues found to help this investigation was her Pug, dog. I wasn't impressed with this story. I will find another of her books and try again. Slow, a bit boring. This story is not for me. The characters were interesting, story line was alright.

Entertaining

Light entertaining always a twist at the end and such a relief from the news

Not how a Lady should act

I’ve listened to a few of her titles the first book in Scandal and Spies is good and Hazel Martin is ok but rather easy to figure out however Lady Katherine is an idiot and rather short sighted and over estimates her own abilities. No wonder none take seriously

The dumb is in the details.

No spoilers here.
For starters, I knew who the culprit was from the first moment that character was introduced. And I’m not usually good at solving mysteries no matter how many I read.
Then there were elements of the story that were just ridiculous. The kind of things that make you roll your eyes while listening.
Next, there were statements that were repeated several times throughout the book when it wasn’t necessary - it just felt like the author had forgotten that she already said that twice before.
Lastly, there were more than a few words that were used that didn’t make sense in context. I found myself thinking, “you mean ——, not ——-.” In some cases it was as if the author had used a thesaurus to choose a word but didn’t really get the nuance of meaning right.
If you just want a book to kill time with, you can turn this on and just let the story roll, but if you prefer a well-crafted book, I suggest you pass on this one.

Mystery isn’t all murder

I liked this 2nd book better than the 1st one. The characters are better developed and more seamless with the storyline. Specifically, the dog was a spirited sidekick helping solving the crime instead of the 1st book’s poor attempt of am just so cute behavior that instead came off as an unruly dog.

What I liked best was a crime mystery of a burglary, which was a nice change from murder. Afterall, mystery is a broad term for the unknown, so doesn’t always to be about solving a murder. Look forward to the listening to the next book whether it’s about murder or another crime to solve.

I struggled through this book too.

I finally turned up the speed and that helped. But for the most part the stories just dragged. They were filled with details about boring trivial characters and incidents that had nothing to do with the plot. The endings were clever and surprising. But not enough to make wading through the story worth it. My mind wandered so much, I could have listened to the story twice (which I feel like I did re-listening two chapters back at a time). So I’m not going to continue with this author.

Good story parts are repetitive during last book and this one,

The main character’s constant concern about whether the male interested in her is about her cases or her is annoying and tiresome. And what her father would think of the friendship.

I wanted to like it because I loved the first one,

I wanted to like it because I loved the first one, but there was SO much repetition! Yes, we all know that you are there to solve the Bath mysteries. Yes, we've established you don't trust that guy. I found myself groaning out loud at times. Very disappointing.
