This compilation includes three Jack Reacher novellas and the ultimate fan guide, "Jack Reacher's Rules"....
It's been a while since we first met Lee Child's Jack Reacher in Killing Floor....
Before he was considered a CIA superagent, Mitch Rapp was a gifted college athlete without a care in the world. And then tragedy struck....
Will Robie, a stone-cold hitman, may have just made the first - and last - mistake of his career....
For LAPD homicide cop Harry Bosch, the body in the drainpipe at Mulholland Dam is more than another anonymous statistic....
Mark, Todd, and Zola came to law school to change the world, to make it a better place. But now, as third-year students, these close friends realize they have been duped....
With Reacher, number-one New York Times best-selling author Lee Child has created “a series that stands in the front rank of modern thrillers” (The Washington Post).
Everything starts somewhere....
For elite military cop Jack Reacher, that somewhere was Carter Crossing, Mississippi, way back in 1997. A lonely railroad track. A crime scene. A coverup.
A young woman is dead, and solid evidence points to a soldier at a nearby military base. But that soldier has powerful friends in Washington.
Reacher is ordered undercover - to find out everything he can, to control the local police, and then to vanish. Reacher is a good soldier. But when he gets to Carter Crossing, he finds layers no one saw coming, and the investigation spins out of control.
Local sheriff Elizabeth Deveraux has a thirst for justice - and an appetite for secrets. Uncertain they can trust one another, Reacher and Deveraux reluctantly join forces. Reacher works to uncover the truth, while others try to bury it forever. The conspiracy threatens to shatter his faith in his mission, and turn him into a man to be feared.
A novel of unrelenting suspense that could only come from the pen of number-one New York Times bestselling author Lee Child, The Affair is the start of the Reacher saga, a thriller that takes Reacher - and his readers - right to the edge... and beyond.
Excellent going to listen to of of his books. The next one is Killing Floor
I really enjoyed this book for the most part. I'm not sure how much i liked the ending , but most book endings are that way...either you love them or you hate them. Anyway, on to the next one.!!
Another great one! Jack reacher is at it back in his army days and it's a very good story!
This wasn't a bad read, although not one of Child's best.
The problem for me was the narrator. I have never come so close to stop listening to an audiobook early before.
I am not sure what it was but the bounce didn't suit the character. He also often seemed out of breath.
The story often seemed to be disconnected - perhaps sloppy abridgement?
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
There were a few plot twists and surprises. Also, a few times where I laughed out loud or shot up my hand in triumph. Lee Child does a good job with dialog and creating supporting characters that that are interesting. (though they always seem to be hot women :O) )
Would you listen to another book narrated by Dick Hill?
Maybe. The voice actor's voice sounded good when speaking as Reacher but I did find it annoying for the love interest (young southern woman).
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
There were a couple incidents where I was surprised at some of the decisions made by the main character. Reacher can be a bit dark...
Any additional comments?
This is my 2nd Reacher book and 1st audio book. This is a prequel to the first book, The Killing Floor. If you have not read any of the Reacher books then this is a great first read. I am definitely interested in reading the other Reacher books.
Would you try another book from Lee Child and/or Dick Hill?
Yes if Dick Hill doesn't read it.
Would you recommend The Affair to your friends? Why or why not?
Would you be willing to try another one of Dick Hill’s performances?
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
Any additional comments?
I love the Reacher series....I've read them all. This is the first time I've listened to one, being new to Audible. Dick Hill ruined the book for me. It was not one of the better Reacher stories, but his performance made it even worse.
