Publisher's summary

Six years have passed since Jake Fisher watched Natalie, the love of his life, marry another man. Six years of hiding a broken heart by throwing himself into his career as a college professor. Six years of keeping his promise to leave Natalie alone, and six years of tortured dreams of her life with her new husband, Todd.

But six years haven’t come close to extinguishing his feelings, and when Jake comes across Todd’s obituary, he can’t keep himself away from the funeral. There he gets the glimpse of Todd’s wife he’s hoping for...but she is not Natalie. Whoever the mourning widow is, she’s been married to Todd for almost two decades, and with that fact, everything Jake thought he knew about the best time of his life - a time he has never gotten over - is turned completely inside out.

As Jake searches for the truth, his picture-perfect memories of Natalie begin to unravel. Mutual friends of the couple either can’t be found or don’t remember Jake. No one has seen Natalie in years. Jake’s search for the woman who broke his heart, who lied to him, soon puts his very life at risk as it dawns on him that the man he has become may be based on a carefully constructed fiction.

Harlan Coben once again delivers a shocking novel that deftly explores the power of past love and the secrets and lies that such love can hide.

OH!MY!GOD!

I usually don't have a problem listening to Scott Brick but this performance was overwrought and truly cringeworthy. I have no idea what he was trying to accomplish with this narration. It was over the top and sooooo slowly paced. Dial it back Mr. Brick!

Maybe I didn't get it...

This felt a little overly dramatic. The narrator was great, but it felt a little too complicated for a love story.

To love or not to love...

Boy meets girl, falls head over heels, six months later she marries another? Six years after Jake had fallen in love with Natalie he is now a professor at a college that her current husband attended. One day a college announcement comes across his desk that a past Doctorate student has passed away. Natalie's husband. When Jake goes to the funeral in hope to see Natalie, the grieving wife is not Natalie. What is going on? Jake delves into a search that leads him down a rabbit hole that just may be the last adventure of his life. He just can't let it go, even after he is warned, brutally attacked and fired.
Another Harlan Coben, fast paced mystery with good character development that kept me interested from the beginning to the end. Scott Brick is a good fit for the main character.

Wow....just wow.

I could not stop listening to this story. I carried my phone around with me to keep listening to see what would happen next. Scott Brick delivers a wonderful performance. The story is one twist after another. Why four stars? The ending. The epilogue. It was too easy. I really like this book and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys nail-biting suspense.

I did get annoyed with the main character for continuing in the quest even though he kept getting beat up and putting other's lives in danger. He was very selfish with his love and determination for Natalie. It got a bit annoying but, without it there would be no story from half-way through the book.

Not my favorite Harlan Coben story but I will continue to read/listen to his stuff because he is a great story teller.

Cute Love Story

The main character.

Yes

Annoying narrator

The story could have been better but it was the reader's voice that really got on my nerves. I just didn't care by the end .

Good story, not the best narrator

You can't go wrong with Harlan Coben, always a good and gripping story. I don't think this was his best book - supporting characters are better in other works - but the plot twists and the sense of humour remain brilliant.
I did not like Scott Brick's narration. He was too heavy on the cynical side of the main character, who seemed always too blasé, and failed to make a clear distiction among characters' voices. In certain dialogues, I could not know who was speaking.
Overall, an entertaining audiobook.

Where is Jonathan Marosz?

If you could sum up Six Years in three words, what would they be?

A Great Story

Who was your favorite character and why?

Jake. He loved Natalie unconditionally and was willing to do whatever it took to find her.

What three words best describe Scott Brick’s voice?

Whiny - shaky - distracting

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Loved the story. Nothing extreme though.

Any additional comments?

Nobody can tell a story like Harlan Coban. His books contain, for my money, the best combination of mystery story and wise cracking humor. This story lived up to his best so far, but the always-close-to-tears voice of the narrator nearly obscured the "lighter" side of the tale. Bring back Jonathan Marosz!
