Publisher's summary

The final book in Dolores Redondo’s atmospheric Baztan trilogy, featuring Inspector Amaia Salazar. With masterful storytelling and a detective to rival Sarah Lund, this Spanish bestselling series has taken Europe by storm.

It begins with a murdered child. It ends in a valley where nightmares are born.

When Detective Inspector Amaia Salazar is called in to investigate the death of a baby girl, she finds an ominous sign that points to murder.

The girl’s grandmother tells the police that the ‘Inguma’ was responsible – an evil demon of Basque mythology that kills people in their sleep – Amaia is forced to return to the Baztán valley for answers.

Back where it all began, she comes face to face with a ghost from her past. And finally uncovers a devastating truth that has ravaged the valley for years.

Mystery, crime, twists, and much more!

This is the third book in the Baztan Trilogy. I first encountered this story on Netflix where I watched the portrayal of the story through film. It intrigued me to understand the intricacies of the story better by listening to the books. I was not disappointed in either and I recommend this brilliant trilogy.

The third book follows the second by unwinding the truth about the crimes of the past and closing the loop on all the unanswered questions. It involves cults, murder, betrayal, and much more!

Another fabulous story!!!

Please keep these books coming!!! I find myself unable to stop listening. Character development is great and the description of the scenes makes me feel like I am witnessing the drama first hand. The narration is spot on.

Exceptional

Outstanding trilogy, narrator, (and translation). Thank you team Redondo.

This book, 3rd in the trilogy, is much more than a conventional murder mystery. It covers Basque history and culture, a range of human emotions, and a plot that keeps you in suspense right up to the very end.

Well worth listening. (it should be noted that the narrator of the first volume was not as good with English as the narrator of the last two)

Good Story, Frustrating Lead Character

Overall, this was a good ending to the trilogy. I like the way the author tied all three stories together and I liked the subtlety of the supernatural elements, which helped make everything more believable.

Spoiler Alert

I must admit I didn't really care for the lead character. I'm all for a flawed character but I thought she seemed relatively unbothered by some of her own actions given how self-righteous she was with others. James was almost too underatanding and I just found Markena's obessession with Amaia to be annoying.

Also, towards the end, maybe she was blinded by infatuation, but it almost seemed too obvious who was behind it all and the fact that she kept believing that person's lies seems far fetched for a "star cop".
