Publisher's summary

James Patterson's scariest, sexiest stand-alone thriller since The Quickie.

Ben isn't like most people. Unable to control his racing thoughts, he's a man consumed by his obsessions: movies, motorcycles, presidential trivia - and Diana Hotchkiss, a beautiful woman Ben knows he can never have.

When Diana is found dead outside her apartment, Ben's infatuation drives him on a hunt to find out what happened to the love of his life.

Ben soon discovers that the woman he pined for was hiding a shocking double life. And now someone is out to stop Ben from uncovering the truth about Diana's illicit affairs.

In his most heart-pumping thriller yet, James Patterson plunges us into the depths of a mind tortured by paranoia and obsession, on an action-packed chase through a world of danger and deceit.

Head case

The main character Ben, is a real head case. Entertaining and A D D to an educating and funny fault. I found myself writing down movie titles for future watching.
The story jumped too quickly for me. I wanted to like Andre more. And I wanted to know Benjamin’s parents through his eyes and memories.
Over-all it was a good read. I needed to know if Ben goes on with the online paper? Does he see Ashley Brooks as a Date option?
Or is he too weird to get a girl?

Wow!! Fantastic!!

I loved this story. It had humor, action, murder, spies, a little sex, (very little but it was there) and a great narrator. This is one of the funnest books I have listened to in a long time. The main character Ben at first seemed a little spacy but pulls it out in the end. There were quiet action sounds in the back ground that added to the story and Kevin Collins was a great narrator. All around I highly recommend this book.

Quality losing to quantity

What did you like best about Mistress? What did you like least?

Mistress was Patterson's usual great writing. The constant barrage of trivia and bunny trails kept the story from taking itself too seriously. Which is a good thing because the premise, plot, storyline, and overwhelming tidal wave of circumstances and unbelievability really made the rest of the book an embarrassment.

What could James Patterson and David Ellis have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

The plot is horrendous. I really appreciate the up to date references that are included, but the storyline just flat out doesn't work.

Which scene was your favorite?

Favorite scene? Dianna in an orange jumpsuit kissing Libby Rose in the back do the chauffeured car.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

No. The only enjoyment I got from the book - Ben's inner dialogue and banter - just wouldn't work as a movie.

Any additional comments?

There are so many things to love about Mr. Patterson's writing. And I very much admire his profundity and his willingness to put his name, as co-author, on so many, many works. However, it seems his desire to produce books is overshadowing his ability to WRITE books. Please, sir. Slow down and do your best.

Racing thoughts were distracting

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Good book would have been better without the Presidential and movie line trivia, I found it distracting from the storyline.

Would you be willing to try another book from James Patterson and David Ellis ? Why or why not?

I read everything by James Patterson.

I actually enjoyed this book....

Would you consider the audio edition of Mistress to be better than the print version?

I did not read the print version and listened to the audio version only. I thought that the performance was really good and kept my interest.

What about Kevin T. Collins’s performance did you like?

I thought that Kevin T. Colllin's did an excellent job in performing the character's viewpoint. He was very funny and kept the book moving at a lively pace. He was able to pull off the rambling thought of the book's main character very well.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I found myself laughing several times throughout the performance by the crazy, rambling thought's of the main character at the most inopportune moments.

Any additional comments?

The book will definitely not win any awards for writing but I enjoyed the fast paced style and story.
