Publisher's summary

When Avery Archer, an 11-year-old boy, telephones Ken Driscoll, a young accountant, and pleads for help in escaping from his kidnappers, Ken thinks the boy is playing a sick prank. But after several daily calls, Ken truly believes the boy is in danger. When Ken contacts the local police for assistance, he learns Avery was abducted 67 years ago and eaten by alligators in a nearby lake.

Were they just prank telephone calls in the middle of the night, or was it a desperate cry for help?

The calls eventually force Ken to examine what is important in his life. His job? His relationship with his fiancée? Or the life of the boy at the end of the telephone line?

If you’ve seen frequency this might not be for you

This book was the same concept as the show Frequency. The story itself dragged for the first 2.5 hours to the point where I almost stopped listening. Even after things picked up, there were large chunks where the story would simply crawl.

The narration was ok but definitely could use work. The narrator had maybe three voices total and then had a character sound like they were Asian when they weren’t even close to that ethnicity—pre-reading of the material should have caught this.

The book has pretty strong language, no Fbombs but would definitely make this R if it were a movie. Some sexual content but nothing straight out explicit.

If you haven’t seen Frequency or the movie that’s similar to it, maybe this would be more enjoyable and much less predictable.

I would not choose to read this again.

Great story with some great twists!

This is such a refreshing book with a great premise that I’ve never read in any book before. Part mystery, part time travel (sort of), part detective novel, you will really like this book. Kudos to the authors. It was a nice touch to listen to one of the authors at the end of the book.

Fantastic book

So, this was a fantastic book. I really had no clue where things were going. The narration is quite good, as well. The author does a great job of drawing you in and carrying you on the journey with Ken as he struggles to make sense of what is happening and find a way to help. I loved the mystery and suspense. Definitely worth a credit.

A Nail-biting suspense with a twist

Let Freedom Ring is an intriguing story. I found it rather chilling at first. I listened to the audiobook and found it intriguing. I think the choice of narrator was great.
Avery Archer is kidnapped when he is 11 years old. His father is a prominent wealthy Orange grower. He calls Ken Driscoll almost nightly begging for help.
So far sounds normal right? the kicker is Ken finds out that Avery was kidnapped, shot in the head and tossed in the lake. his body never found.
The story is such a nailbiter that I didn't want to stop. The plot is unique and unpredictable and I couldn't help but cheer Ken on. One thing I liked so much is that Ken is a very normal man. A tax auditor, not a police officer or military man or some alpha man. just a mild-mannered regular guy, getting ready to get married. There are so many twists that it keeps you wanting more. I tried so hard to listen in one day!
I highly recommend this if you like suspense with a twist

Gripping!

This story starts a bit slow but quickly turns into a gripping and emotional rollercoaster of a listen! The only thing that would have made it better would have been a different narrator. Mr. Winkler has a nice voice and does alright in changing voices for the characters. However, his voice was almost too soothing for this suspenseful story. It's still worth listening too and I will be recommending this to my friends.

I couldn't stop listening!

Once I started listening to this story I had to continue until I found out how it ended. This is one of the few books I didn't want to put down until I got to the end. I felt so bad for Avery Archer and teared up a few times listening to him asking for help and knowing it wasn't coming any time soon. I didn't know what was going to happen next in this book. The narration was very good, which made listening even better. I would like to see this book made into a movie!
