Publisher's summary

New secrets, old flames, and hidden agendas are about to send bounty hunter Stephanie Plum on her most outrageous adventure yet!

MISTAKE #1
Dickie Orr
Stephanie was married to him for about fifteen minutes before she caught him cheating on her with her archnemesis, Joyce Barnhardt. Another fifteen minutes after that, Stephanie filed for divorce, hoping never to see either one of them again.

MISTAKE #2
Doing favors for super bounty hunter Carlos Manoso (aka Ranger)
Ranger needs Stephanie to meet with Dickie and find out if he's doing something shady. Turns out, he is. Turns out, Dickie's also back to doing Joyce Barnhardt. And it turns out Ranger's favors always come with a price. . . .

MISTAKE #3
Going completely nutso while doing the favor for Ranger, and trying to apply bodily injury to Dickie in front of the entire office
Now Dickie has disappeared, and Stephanie is the natural suspect in his disappearance. Is Dickie dead? Can he be found? And can Stephanie Plum stay one step ahead in this new, dangerous game? Joe Morelli, the hottest cop in Trenton, New Jersey, is also keeping Stephanie on her toes---and he may know more than he's saying about many things in Stephanie's life. It's a cat-and-mouse game for Stephanie Plum wherein the ultimate prize might be her life.

With Janet Evanovich's flair for hilarious situations, breathtaking action, and unforgettable characters, Lean Mean Thirteen shows why no one can beat Evanovich for blockbuster entertainment.

Stephanie is a dimwit

I wish that the author would fix this. Stephanie makes the same mistakes over and over. At some point we learn from our mistakes. She is portrayed as stupid with her multiple mistakes that are the same.
The story line is pretty much the same in all the Plum books. I'd like to see Stephanie get smarter, carry a gun, kick some ass, catch her FTA's on the first time. When you make Joyce a smarter better bounty hunter it is sad too as Joyce has been a bully to Stephanie since childhood. Why not make Stephanie the better so she can finally one up Joyce. This aspect is so frustrating in this series. I did like the fact that Stephanie did clock Dickie Orr. He is a horrible human being.
I hope for Stephanie and Joe's relationship to move forward. I know Ranger is a problem but he does respect Joe so I think the threesome can work. I am glad that Bob is still in the picture too. Anything is better with a dog in the picture.
Here is hoping for growth in Stephanie in the next book.

I'll read the print

I have to say honestly that I didn't finish this book. I managed to get through 7 minutes and 38 seconds before I was incapable of listening to the horrible voice characterizations. This is the first Stephanie Plum I've listened to but have read all books leading up to it in print. While the reader's narration and Plum voice were fine the characters of Connie and Lula were awful. Being such a fan I was unable to take Lula sounding like a bad black male voice and Connie sounding like some Midwest nosy neighbor as opposed to an Italian Jersey lady. I'm sad that I wasted the credit and even sadder that I have to go and buy the book as well.

Disappointing

I was very disappointed with this book. It feels like the author phoned this one in. I'm a huge fan of the series, but this one just falls flat. There was very little plot and the dialog which is usually so great had a few laughs but that's about it. Come on Janet, let's put some effort into the next one...please!
