Publisher's Summary

An unsolved crime pits a desperate woman against a relentless killer in New York Times bestselling author Mary Burton’s heart-stopping novel of psychological suspense…

Fourteen years ago, Kaitlin Roe was the lone witness to the abduction of her cousin Gina. She still remembers that lonely Virginia road. She can still see the masked stranger and hear Gina’s screams. And she still suffers the guilt of running away in fear and resents being interrogated as a suspect in the immediate aftermath. Now Kaitlin has only one way to assuage the pain and nightmares—by interviewing everyone associated with the unsolved crime for a podcast that could finally bring closure to a case gone cold.

But when a woman Kaitlin questions is later found stabbed to death, she fears that she’s drawn a killer out of hiding. It’s Detective John Adler’s fear that the murders have only just begun. Now his job is to keep Kaitlin safe.

As a bond between Kaitlin and Adler builds, the past closes in just as fast—and it’s darker than Kaitlin remembers. Soon, her wish will come true. She’s going to find out exactly what happened to Gina. Someone has been dying to tell her.

Great read and barely okay listen..

Another great read from Mary Burton. This one was about a girl who was kidnapped 14 years prior and her friend came back to town to find out who did it and where Gina Mason was. And it was about 2 more murders of friends of Gina’s and the killer wanting to kill our heroine, Kaitlin, along with as many cops as he could.

It was exciting from beginning to the end.

There was graphic sex in this but as usual I skipped it because nothing ever leads up to it. And the F-bomb was used 10 times.

As to the narration: Brittany Pressley was just okay for me. She doesn’t always remember when a man is talking so THAT man sounds like a woman. I’d listen to her again but I wouldn’t go out of my way to find books narrated by her.

Good Procedural as I would expect from Mary Burton

This is a very good police procedural. The book is tense and although not lightening paced it moves steadily along through a cold case.
The publisher's summary gives a good description of what to expect. The story unfolds as the protagonist (Katlin Roe) puts together a podcast to bring attention to the case of her cousin's disappearance 14 years ago. Through her own memories and interviews with people aware or involved each new chapter uncovers a little more of what happened that night. The problem is the people she interviews start turning up dead. At first the detective looks at Kaitlin as a possible accomplice but then she is almost murdered as well. The crime was interrupted and she ends up in the hospital instead of the morgue. Well written book with interesting characters and a surprising ending.
Brittany Pressley does a very good job narrating.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Good Mystery and Narration

This was a good murder mystery and cold case mystery. I like Kaitlyn and Adler. The story line and plot was good.

There was a lot of dialogue throughout the entire book. It wasn’t full of filler moment nonsense.

Things developing and the case being resolved. It all flowed very well and was easy to follow along.

There was attraction between Kaitlyn and Adler. It did lead to a sex scene that was nicely written not rated G not erotica. they did have chemistry so it fell into place nicely.

As for the narration, it was great. The narrator did a great job on all the voices including the men and she had a nice reading boys.

All in all a great psychological murder mystery.

Good suspense mystery!

Listening was worth the time it took, but Her Last Word is not a special novel. Narration was just barely 3 star.

Excellent

I enjoyed a love story progress. It was really neat the way a woman finally got brave enough to find out what really happened to her cousin.

Good..

It was fun to read a story with a different twist, Albeit a very interesting and exciting plot twist. The characters are so well written it’s easy to love and hate and feel a lot of emotional attachment to them. The marathon is exceptionally Well done, you can’t go wrong with this read

This is an exciting read

I have to confess to being a real Mary Burton fan and wait eagerly for her books to come out. She is an excellent writer who tells a great suspense story and this one does not disappoint. The story is solid and the characters very believable. I recommend this author to anyone who enjoys Karen Rose.
