Publisher's Summary

Detective Michael Bennett and his family are about to be haunted...

by a father's worst nightmare - the signs he should have seen and a son's desperate cry for help. Reeling from a crisis that would destroy lesser families, the Bennetts escape New York for a much-needed vacation.

An idyllic country town in the Maine woods is haunted...

by an epidemic emptying its streets and preying on its youth. Turns out the vacation brochures don't tell the full story - the seemingly perfect community has a deadly vice. When local cops uncover a grisly crime scene buried deep in the woods, they consult the vacationing Bennett, who jumps at the chance to atone for his own sins. You can take Michael Bennett out of New York City, but you can't take the cop out of Michael Bennett. But far from the city streets he knows so well, no one will talk to the big-city detective, and the bodies keep piling up.

A young, hardscrabble, and forgotten girl is haunted...

by a traumatic history. Homeless and destitute, she represents the closest thing Bennett has to a partner in his frantic hunt for the ghostlike perpetrator behind the violence. Will Bennett and his unlikely ally unmask the culprit before anyone else winds up haunted?

disappointed or not bad????

it is so hard to say. the narrator is ok, the story is ok and; all in all...ok. Not sure about dedicating myself to ten plus book series. For James Patterson's skill this is garbage just to get that next paycheck. WTF James really??

Narration a problem

The narrator has done several of the Michael Bennett series but sounded like he has had a stroke or something is wrong. Slurred words, slow enunciation, and slow overall made this tough to listen to. I’m surprised it got through your QC processes.

Don’t waste your time

This character’s family life is not worth 1/2 the book and the other half is just as stupid. I hate the fact that audible put this out as a best seller and I wasted my time. I thought it would get better and even at the last hour I had to look to see how much time was left cause this book sucks. I won’t be taking in anymore “recommendations”. This book is not worth it, the whole plot is so dumb! Haunted?!?!? I’m haunted with questions as to why anyone would want to read this pos book.

I was expecting sooo much more. It wasn't that great. Trading for something else. Disappointed.

Not what I'd hoped it'd be

Narration was a bit too monotone for me. I've read a few James Patterson books that I was happy with, this will not be on that list unfortunately. Not much to say about it, it was just ok.

A few new twists

As usual, I enjoyed this addition to the Michael Bennett stories. I think the best part of the audible editions is always Danny Mastrogiorgio’s excellent narration. Glad to see the Bennett’s storyline advancing and the introduction of some very realistic challenges into their family life. Can’t wait to see what is in store for them in the future. A great light read, easy to digest quickly.

Voice actor brings Michael to life!

This story touches the core of the listener because the voice is so real and connects so solidly with the character of Mike Bennett. His tough nature with his big heart come alive through the voice actor. The author weaves a lovely tapestry of a tough, but fragile, good guy, with a crazy large Catholic family made up of solid well sewn relationships and recognizable values, who has to navigate the world of New York Cops. I hope for more books to come with this reader, these characters, and don’t let Mary Catherine go anywhere.
