Publisher's Summary

David Baldacci's First Family is the fourth gripping New York Times best seller in the King and Maxwell series.

'When she turned the page and her gaze flickered over the date on top, it was as though the lightning outside had somehow grounded right into her. A billion volts of pain, a shriek of anguish you could actually see and feel as it pierced her.'

Camp David, USA. A birthday party turns into a nightmare when a child is snatched after the celebrations.

The first lady enlists the services of Sean King and Michelle Maxwell to bring the child home safely. But she and King share a past. Years ago he saved her then senator husband from political disaster. And this may not be all that passed between them.

With Michelle still battling her own demons, the two are pushed to the limit, with forces aligned on all sides against them - and the line between friend and foe impossible to define...or defend.

David Baldacci's smash-hit series continues with The Sixth Man and King and Maxwell.

Gripping

This was a really good listen. Perhaps not His best , but definitely worth buying. I meant to read a chapter or two to begin with but after twenty three chapters managed to put the light out. That's what I call gripping!

Bad recording

There is a problem with this recording. It skips/jumps in about 9 places throughout the story which spoils it. I have complained to audible several times, they confirmed it is the recording itself

Superb story - excellently read!

First Family had more twists than I was expecting and the intertwined elements of Baldacci’s story were held together by the, as always, excellent performance reading skills of Ron McLarty. Some of the pace was lost in the middle sections but this picked up again in the latter half culminating in a superb yet unexpected ending. I can just see this as a Netflix mini series.

perseverance paid off

I found the beginning hard to deal with but persevered and half way through I understood and couldn't put it down

Great Baldacci story but...

... who on earth had the not so bright idea of destroying the performance with sound effects and horrendous mood music. In addition the performance was spoilt by constant jumping which seems to have been a result of the production being ripped from a damaged CD and no one bothered to check the result. I'm hoping the remaining books in the series don't have the same flaws and I hope someone has apologised to Mr McLarty for turning his solid narration into something that just sucks.

Poor quality Audio

It just keeps hopping and skipping and it spoilt the experience. I've listened to 16 Baldacci novels and this is as good as the rest, story wise. If it had played properly it would have got 5.
Only issue, they should use Orlagh Cassidy for the female roles like the Puller and Robie series.

Awful recording - good story

Any additional comments?

Lots of faults with recording throughout. Jumped forward and jumped back, lost sections of story throughout - made it a difficult listen
