Publisher's Summary

This was to be her last day alive. The renowned criminal psychologist Ira Samin prepared her suicide thoroughly. The death of her eldest daughter had weighed too heavily on her conscience for her to carry on and she yearned for one last drink to raise a toast to oblivion. Her morbid plans are interrupted and she is called in to negotiate a gruesome hostage situation at a radio station where a psychopath is playing a morbid game.

While the show is on air, he calls people from the phonebook at random. If they pick up the phone with a certain slogan, a hostage is set free. If they don’t, then the hostage is unceremoniously shot. The man threatens to continue playing this game until his fiancée arrives at the studio. The only problem is that his fiancée died several months ago....

Amok is a tense psychological hostage thriller set in a Berlin Radio Station, from the internationally renowned author of the best-selling Audible Original Drama The Child.

PETROL STATION

This did nothing to make me want to listen to the whole thing. So, glad it was free. We have a woman who is planning her suicide and a guy who is going explode a bomb in a busy area. It ends before we find if they succeed and why they are doing what they are doing. I am not big in to Mysteries, so I found I did not care enough to buy the book.

The production and narrators were okay, but did not really stand out.

Amok First three chapters

Would you listen to FIRST THREE FREE CHAPTERS: Amok again? Why?

No, it's not my kind of story. It flows more like a spy thriller, so if people enjoy those types of books, I think they will enjoy this.

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

yes

Too Over the Top

Definitely not my cup of tea. The story has the potential to be an exciting thriller, but it was just so overdone that I couldn't take it seriously. I won't be listening to the full version of this drama any time soon.

Over Blown Pathetic Clap Trap - Bad Writing

The pretentious writing is annoying pathetic clap trap.

This writer is trying far too hard, leading to failure. This is what I expect an amateur to produce, not a writer who is expecting his intelligent paying audience to read.

I listened to the 15 minutes of Free Claptrap which went on like 5 hours of gut wrenching torture, feeling very sorry for my grey cells which were
begging me to 'Switch Off'. But I wanted to persevere to find out what all of the Over Blown Advertising was all about, when suddenly the ever so serious excited narrator; STOPPED rambling !! and all went Dead - Thank God. All it left me feeling was - NOTHING. Just glad it was over.
Why are we being advertised to death to Listen to and buy this Dreadful work ???
Now I can get on with my life and stop wondering any longer.
What a luxury this feels and I am so happy no to have fallen into the Advertisers Trap - I will keep my valuable Credits and my precious money.
I escaped yet more Brain Washing to buy Bad Work.

Yawn!

Thought this sounded really interesting, but as it is a drama, things happen that are not explained! For instance, in the second chapter the main character was doing something in her apartment. All you could hear was banging and crashing as things were moved - BUT nothing was explained on the narration other than "well she decided to do something else instead" What she was doing is a mystery to me!! Pointless!! Needs MUCH better narration to actually tell you what is going on!!

Dont let the sample guide you

I downloaded the sample because I like Adrian Lester & Peter Firth
the sample of 3 chapters was interesting introduced the characters and gave you a taste of the story.
so based on this I downloaded the whole book - a mistake I felt
the story is a little complicated, but is made more complicated by some of the narration - some voices are very similar and its hard to follow who is speaking sometimes

I wouldn't recommend this as an audible book - might be a good read in it physical form ??

Not for me

I was pleased to be able to try the first few chapters of this dramatisation, however I didn't enjoy this introduction, I felt that the story was 'all over the place', I do understand that the first chapters of a book have to lay down the scenes - but I found it very disjointed.
I also found the background 'explanatory' noises most annoying - I know what a phone ring sounds like!
This doesn't seem to be my type of thing, but thank you Audible for the opportunity to try it!

Beware! - This Review And All Others May Wrong

When you review a book on Audible you had better make sure you have got it right because you cannot change it nor can you remove it once it’s been posted.

I found this out when I reviewed the book “Revolution” under the heading, “Come On Russ Matey”. A week after I submitted the review I re-read the book and found that I had been wrong and far too negative in my assessment of it. Also, I re-read it when I was sober which makes a big difference in one’s judgment.

Realising that I had written a review that might lead other Audible members astray, I wrote a number of emails to Audible US and Audible Australia to request that the review be deleted. They fussed around promising to look into “this” and look into “that” and finally went off the air. Two weeks later I approached them again have had nothing but silence ever since.

As a member can only review a title that they have purchased and can only review a title once, I have no choice but to vent my concerns to this and other titles that I don’t want to pay for just to post this review. Obviously, I am unable to post it under the “Revolution” title a second time.
