Publisher's Summary

Between brewing magically spiced treats at Honeybee Bakery and volunteering with a local conservation group, Katie Lightfoot barely has time to see her firefighter boyfriend, Declan McCarthy, much less delve further into her destiny as a witch. But avoiding her fate won't be as easy as whipping up a new recipe-especially when Katie finds herself once again mixed up in murder.

When a fellow volunteer for the conservation group is found dead, Katie's mystical senses tell her that there's more to the death than meets the eye. Her suspicions are confirmed when members of her coven are targeted next. Katie will have to embrace her powers quickly...or she may find herself chewed up and spit out by some serious black magic.

"Thoroughly Enjoyable Mystery & Great on Audio"

Katie Lightfoot is keeping herself busy. Between working at the bakery and volunteering, she barely has time to see her firefighter boyfriend, Declan. She's not avoiding Declan, but moreso avoiding her fate and destiny as a witch, and a powerful one at that. However she can't constantly run away from it, especially when her powers are needed to solve the murder of a fellow volunteer at the conservation group.

Charms and Chocolate Chips is the third book in the Magical Bakery Mysteries and I adored the first two books in this series. They combine my love of culinary cozies with paranormal elements just perfectly and often leave me [im]patiently waiting for the next book. I read the first two books in this series, and opted to listen to the latest book as an audiobook.

I like Katie Lightfoot. She's discovering lots of things about herself and her family that she didn't know before. She's only recently learnt that she's a witch and that's a lot to take on - especially when she learns that she's a "catalyst" and might be more powerful than she first thought. She's also taking baby steps with her relationship with Declan, given her previous disaster relationship. Add in another murder and well she's certainly got her hands full. However, what Katie soon discovers is that she can handle more than she thought she could!!

Charms and Chocolate Chips felt like a turning point for Katie. Her mother, who she hasn't spoken to very much since learning that her mother hid from her that Katie's a witch, is in town and it's great to learn more about Katie's family history and putting pieces of her own life's puzzle into place. For the reader we get a hint at exactly how much power Katie has and it's very interesting. I cannot wait to see how her powers progress as the series go on, as I'm sure it's going to be a great magical journey.

Charms and Chocolate Chips was a fantastic listen on audio. I listened while I dug into some holiday baking and it was a fantastic experience. Amy Rubinate was already one of my favorite narrators (based on her narration of The Selection series by Kiera Cass) and I'm so happy to see her narrating this series. She does a fantastic job of telling this story and her narration of Katie and her aunt, Lucy, are simply spot on. I plan to listen to future books in this series on audio.

I highly recommend this series to fans of culinary mysteries and paranormal mysteries. If you are looking for a series to try on audiobook, then definitely pick up the audio version, and Amy Rubinate's narration does not disappoint.

First Thought when Finished: Charms and Chocolate Chips had a really strong mystery that I really enjoyed. While I am still not a fan of Katie, I am a fan of everyone else. I will continue the series!

Audio Thoughts: Narrated By Amy Rubinate and she did an excellent jobs. I think I will continue this series on audio.

"You don't have to listen to series in order"
Where does Charms and Chocolate Chips rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

    It was cute

What other book might you compare Charms and Chocolate Chips to and why?

I enjoy the holiday titles that are a collaboration between Mary Higgins Clark and her daughter Carol Higgins Clark, they have mystery, humor and a small bit of romance. Perfect combination. This series is very similar to those.

    Any additional comments?

I will go back and listen to the rest of the titles in this series. I started here with #3 and I don't feel like I missed anything important by not starting with the first.

These series of books have completely charmed me. The familial feeling relationships between the book club members make me wish for the Honey Bee to be in my town.

I have read all of The Magical Bakery mysteries to date and have enjoyed them all. I enjoyed the twist and turns in the mystery and the way the characters are developing. This is book is worth the credit and the time.

"The story is fun but the narrator needs help."
Would you listen to Charms and Chocolate Chips again? Why?

I love Bailey Cates' Magical Bakery Mystery series. This next in the series keeps the fun and mystery going. I love how Savanna itself is a character adding charm to the story. If you love cozy mysteries with food or witches (very light magic in this) then you will love this series.

The only bad part is that the narrator never bothers to research the correct pronunciation of words and just stumbles through the story. I like her voice but the mispronounced words takes me out of the story and bothers me.

Otherwise if you can get past the narration issues this is a wonderful series.

If you enjoyed the previous two books in this series, you'll be guaranteed to like this one as well. Same recipe and the same result.

    "easy listening"
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

This book is easy to listen. No meat. Sometimes you just need a break from the hard stuff, this one works well for that.

What about Amy Rubinate’s performance did you like?

    Reads well.

"I'm falling in love with this series."

This series is fantastic and I am having difficulty taking a break between books. I initially struggled listening to this narrator. Honestly, her tone in combination with the frequent long pauses half way through every sentence almost kept me from buying book 3. However, I found that speeding up the narration to 1.25 made all the difference. ... I've gotta go now so I can catch the 1st 15 minutes of book 4 before I go to bed!
