From a USA Today best-selling author

Some secrets should stay buried. That's nearly impossible when a Golden Retriever named Fred, with a knack for digging up the truth, shows up with his owner to investigate an accidental drowning. When Jake realizes the drowning is no accident, his new girlfriend starts avoiding him. She's a sheriff deputy and says she doesn't want or need his help, but could she have another motive for keeping him quiet?

I loved this series!

Thoroughly enjoyable, clever stories with terrific characters!. Great locales, excellent interplay between the main character and his neighbor cum sidekick Bonnie. Fred, the dog, is wonderful, as is the later addition of the cat. Really enjoyable and totally entertaining. I loved this series and have recommended it to my other book loving, dog loving, mystery loving friends! Will check into other books written by this author! I hope he is planning a few more in this series! Kareen Carruthers

Gotta love that humor!

This was delightful and I greatly enjoyed it. My first Richard Houston mystery and I’ll read more. Great humor. I’m an animal lover who talks to my pets, too, so I enjoyed the verbal exchange. Story held my interest as did the characters.

Good Story & Narration

Fred a woman type dog, uncovers drowning was really murder
Jake working on the old homestead, and thinking this woman wanted some carpentry done. Instead to prove her husband was murder. Interesting and a nice audio with good narration by Tom Taverna. Given ARC for my voluntary review and my honest opinion

I love this series ❤ And I'm more of a cat person

But Jake, Fred, Bonnie and Tigger are just good company to have on a car ride.

Fun little romp

I received this book free in exchange for an honest review. I liked it. It was a fun ride, nothing too heavy. Interesting characters. The love relationship is confusing -distracting in its lack of clarity, but all in all entertaining story. I listen to it on 1.75 speed however or I would lose my mind. The narrator is draggy but speeded up is fine.

Excellent Story

I love the fact that this is not all sex and bullying, too many writers at stuck and forget their storyline. This one doesn't. It has it's little rabbit trails to be sure but they are not distracting from the main storyline and not too frequent. I love a good Who Done IT and I'll check out more of this series. Very refreshing.

A suspect death, a million dollar inheritance

Yeah, a real suspect death, just surprising it didn't kill more people.
However, the clues just keep on coming, and thankfully our amateur detective, is tech savory and his canine offside can locate stuff in mud, where even a metal detector struggles to locate the goods.
Yeah, interesting how bits and pieces can be found and put into the right places, to make a complete picture.
