Publisher's Summary

After failing to completely close The Rift, Lusam and Neala travel south in search of the illusive Pearl Isle, where they hope to discover the fourth Guardian book, and return in time to try again. Time, however, is not on their side, as the dark God, Aamon, sets in motion a plan to restore his own power, and once again tear open The Rift to unleash the horrors of the Netherworld upon their world.

Aysha's new inability to see his destiny, along with her prophetic warnings about a hidden realm and Neala's certain death if she enters it, all weigh heavily on Lusam's mind. Old friendships are rekindled, and new ones forged along the way, some more strange than they could ever have imagined. And a new discovery is made, one so profound that it will change Lusam's life forever, as well as rewrite the very history of Afaraon.

Great series

My boyfriend and I like to listen to this series on road trips, it’s something we can enjoy which is nice because our taste in books is generally different. The narrator is fantastic, we listened to another great series with the same narrator and really enjoy his narrations. The book is well written, great characters and has some humor.

good plot but to much dead end internal dialogue

Books 1-4 were much better. Unlike the previous books in book 5 the MC has become a frightened dopey child. The MC of this book is nothing like he was previously. For every bit of forward momentum there has to be at least 10x as much of second guessing, rethinking through 20 different things that are obviously stupid and constant gut wrenching anxiety/fear on the MCs part. Now he is constantly afraid of everything and has to rethink every step 10 times before deciding to do the obvious thing. There was a lot of reiteration to go along with all of the dead end thought threads which made the book just feel padded and to much like filler. I'll still give the next book a shot when it come out but this one was a miss for me.

Definitely worth the credit!

If u look at my reviews you will know I’m a big fan of the fantasy genre. I’m always on the lookout for a new fantasy series or novel and I resisted this particular series because of the various reviews were so up and down. Finally purchased this series and glad of it!
I will say I understand the listeners, who gave bad reviews, annoyance with a couple character’s, Mine was with Nela the know it all. Here is an analogy; think of the girlfriend of a new star quarterback in NFL and she is an Olympic champ In her own right but in the sport of Softball. While she is athletic & strong....why would the quarterback take play strategy and pass tips from her and defer to her when contemplating strategy? Anyway that analogy kinda sucked lol! And this book has nothing to do with football or softball... rather it’s full of magic, mages, knights, creatures, medieval world building, gods, and a dragon or two.... so far! I really enjoyed the story and each book adds a new turn in the story arc and I like that too. I would say it’s on par with the series by David A. Wells called Sovereign of the Seven Isles, or The Godling Chronicles by Brian Anderson. Don’t let the little hiccup of a character or two that are hard to relate too keep you from jumping aboard, because overall this book is a winner! Can’t wait for next installment!

better than others

I've listened to all in the series so far. I think it's the narrator that I'm having issues with, every single obstacle the narrator reads at as it is the end of the world the sky is falling in oh my goodness. no matter how small the battle is the narrator reads it as it's the end of the times. I almost think he's going to read it and lt is the end of all things and it is actually Lusam going to the bathroom and is constipated. Not all fights need to be read in that way. "The sky is falling the sky is falling" oops it's just a few drop! That's how I feel every hardship that Lusam or anyone else experience is played out in the series.

Wow! Dean Cadman.

A wonderful adventure, not a single boring moment, beautifully written and narrated exceptionally well. This series was written to be narrated by this particular narrator. I read a few mumblings about the editing of this book. Well, in my opinion, this book as well as the others in the series was edited flawlessly. Everyone who had anything to do with this series, did their job quite well indeed!
Wonderful exciting fantasy, I am quite happy ☺ to give it 5 stars! The adventure continues in book 6 ! Wonderful book, great series, so far! 😀
