Mordecai’s simple life as the son of a blacksmith is transformed by the discovery of his magical birthright.

As he journeys to understand the power within him he is drawn into a dangerous plot to destroy the Duke of Lancaster and undermine the Kingdom of Lothion. I loved it before Alex Wyndham and I love it even more now that he is doing all of the books!

I have the original series with the previous narrator, but not before I listened to the embers of illinial trilogy with Alex Wyndham I was excited when I saw that Manning re-released his original series with Alex as the narrator! Really great series and wonderfully written and voiced. If any read this review and enjoyed the book listen to the rest including the prequel and sequel series also! You won’t be disappointed!

The performance is so bad.

He ends every sentence with a super odd high pitch cadence. It's so unnatural and uncomfortable I can't listen to the story. Buy the book and read it yourself. This guy shouldn't ever read for an audio book again. I know I'm not the only one. Read the reviews. They are misleading because people are rating the story high.

I loved it !

I just finished this book and I have to say I’m so glad I did ! I hadn’t ever heard of Michael Manning or any of his books until I stumbled upon “ Choice of Magic “ last year , I finished with that series , which I thought was wonderful , so I wanted to try another series of Mr Mannings :) I can definitely say I’m glad I did …. The first book in this Mageborn series , though a bit short , held my attention right from the start . The narrator was awesome as well , he did a wonderful job . On to the next one !

great book

I love both thus author and the narration of this book. What a great way to spend a day listening to a great book, when the weather is cold and your energy is sapped from being sick. I love an author who can wind a great story in with some fun banter and witty comments.

Good story

If you can get past the narrator. He's not bad, great with variations in characters, just, I couldn't get into it. He sounds like a 'high born' (to stay on point and because I can't think of a better description) telling a story. The way every sentence is said as a poignant statement.

Enchanting tale

As good as Michael G Manning’s other series: Art of the Adept
Fresh, clean, entertaining, full of moral values and humour.
Will read all the following books

Short but catchy. Fun, easy listening.

I'll gladly wait for the later books to be narrated by Alex Wyndham. I hope he works on his female voices.

Good enough to pass the time

For starters. I don’t like that the book is so short other than that the story started off really well and caught my interest and kept my interest. Nothing too extraordinary with the magic system and the world building requires further development.

Love the book! But it was short.

The book was amazing and I am looking forward to the next books in the series! But I finished the book in two days and now have to wait a couple of days for another credit from my membership.
