A fun and engaging story with great narratives and explanations. The world is full of interest and depth and I look forward to what comes next.

Beautiful writing

This particular epic fantasy has everything, great world building with a subtle magic system. For a quick read it is beautifully written with a relatable hero who has several quote worthy passages. This book is a must read/listen, usually I recommend read but the narrator (Simon Vance) is excellent.

Fun unique approach to magic

Parents: besides mild language and some gore due to battle this is a fairly clean read
Language: mild to moderate with a handful of crass terms; no Fbombs
Violence: pg-13
Sexual content: G; flirtation and a shirtless guy

The story is a fun take on magic with constant adventure and action. The tale itself is fast paced enough that you won’t believe it when you hear “this has been book one…” You’ll be left pining for the next book if you enjoy unique magical tales. The description is well thought out so I see no need to add to that regard. Just read this one, you won’t regret it!

The narrator has good differentiations, pace, and was fun to listen to.

Very enjoyable

First time listening to this author. I am going to listen to the rest of the books because I really enjoyed this one. The start of a very good story that I think has real possibilities.

Good story. Interesting magic system.

I enjoyed this story. The protagonist is likeable and virtuous. None of the tortured gray area that so many stories go for nowadays. He is a bit overpowered at times, but his backstory and character make it believable. He is not some unstoppable force.

The magic system is interesting. It is kind of based on music with a mixture of elements and world lore to drive it. I would have loved more detail in this area.

The world exists and affects the story. It is interesting and mysterious. World knowledge is limited by the protagonist being sheltered. More world background would have made the story better. The main character seems like he should know more.

Really enjoyed this one!

Went in with no expectations but was very happily surprised at the quality all around, onto the next one!!

Is good fun and a great audio

A new series for me it was a good fun listen and I enjoyed it if you enjoy fantasy science fiction you'll like this. The character development is all good and an interesting storyline and an excellent audio performance.
