Publisher's summary

Introducing a remarkable new character from number-one New York Times best-selling writer David Baldacci: Atlee Pine, an FBI agent with special skills assigned to the remote wilds of the southwestern United States who must confront a new threat...and an old nightmare.

Eeny, meeny, miny, moe. Catch a tiger by its toe.

It's seared into Atlee Pine's memory: the kidnapper's chilling rhyme as he chose between six-year-old Atlee and her twin sister, Mercy. Mercy was taken. Atlee was spared.

She never saw Mercy again.

Three decades after that terrifying night, Atlee Pine works for the FBI. She's the lone agent assigned to the Shattered Rock, Arizona resident agency, which is responsible for protecting the Grand Canyon.

So when one of the Grand Canyon's mules is found stabbed to death at the bottom of the canyon - and its rider missing - Pine is called in to investigate. It soon seems clear the lost tourist had something more clandestine than sightseeing in mind. But just as Pine begins to put together clues pointing to a terrifying plot, she's abruptly called off the case.

If she disobeys direct orders by continuing to search for the missing man, it will mean the end of her career. But unless Pine keeps working the case and discovers the truth, it could spell the very end of democracy in America as we know it....

Baldacci still has it!!!!

Loved the book! David Baldacci is one of those authors who has not lost his touch. My only question is when will he have time for a forth series? Between Will and John and Amos, he's added Atlee Pine. The man will have to become a speed writer!
If you're a fan of Baldacci you will not be disappointed. I won't elaborate on the publisher's summary or I risk spoiling this book for someone else. I think it's nice that he's decided to make his lethal protagonist a woman as opposed to the just backing up the male protagonist.
Brittany Pressley and Kyf Brewer do an excellent job narrating.
This book has my HIGHEST RECOMMENDATIONS.

Not his best

The story was not his best. I found it predictable and routine. The narration by Brittany was good but the males voices were clearly recorded at a different time. I am surprised the production team did t do a better job.

More!

Loved the pairing of Pine and Blume. Please, more of them in the future.
Did not like the voice characterization of Sam. Made him sound dumb.

Fair story, annoying narration

This was an interesting, not riveting, story. I think three stars says it all. The male narrator sounded the same in all the parts he narrated. It was difficult to tell any male characters apart. Story was ok, a little hokey and two dimensional. Overall, a fair read and I would recommend it at that level.

Male performance was God awful

Too long. Too much wasted space. Unbelievable storyline. Baldacchino must get paid by the word.

Where is Mercy?

I thought by the end of the book we would have found Mercy. I liked the performance by Brittany Pressley but have never been impressed by books read by Kyf Brewer. His range of voices is very limited. Give me Scott Brick and I don't care what the story is.

Lifting Lady

This is a typical Baldacci thriller. Plenty to get excited about as you follow the action. The locale is special too, up and down the Grand Canyon. However, I can't decide if the lead character is one of the author's male leads dressed in a woman's body or a real woman. She is a tough guy and a weightlifter. Atlee certainly isn't a Kinsey Millhone or a Mary Russel. It will take another story to figure it out.

Hope there are many more books in this series to come.

Great character development. Good story line. Hopefully Baldacci will write 15 more books in this series.
