Publisher's Summary

Many are the sagas of Leman Russ, Lord of Winter and War, most fearsome of the Emperor's primarch sons. At the height of the Great Crusade, his Space Wolves fight to bring the rebel world of Dulan to compliance.

Enraged by the defiance of the tyrant Durath, Russ has pledged to strike him down personally - but his brother Lion El'Jonson of the Dark Angels advises more caution. With the might of two Legions arrayed against Durath, tensions nevertheless run high, and the rivalry between the Wolf and the Lion threatens to engulf them all.

Just Brilliant...

Short and sweet... The story shows why Leman of the Russ is one of, if not, the most favored of Primarchs amongst 40K fans and mortals. For he is us! Human, and fallible, but loyal and mighty. A good read or listen, whatever your fancy. Leman's mixture of bravado, personality, self-awareness, and proven lethality makes him by far the most relatable character I've enjoyed reading.

The story of one of the most epic slap fights

One of the better portrayals of Leman Russ and the HH era wolves. Both Russ and the Lion come across as awesome but flawed characters. I'm getting a little tired of the genetic flaw troupe coming up in so many horus heresy books but it's not the focus of the book. As usual for BL the narration is great.

Good

I'm always intrigued at learning more of the primarchs thoughts but despair at how obvious the mistakes they make are. However, it is a really great book to learn about the intrigue and relations between the primarchs and getting insight into the Wolf and the Lions perception of themselves and each other.

A Must Have

I almost didn't get this book, but it was more than worth a Listen. Hopefully the rest of the Primarchs are as interesting as this one. Even though most doesn't center on Leman Russ you feel it gives you a connection to him.

The Origins of the Angle and Wolf honor duel

There are two reason to like this book. First it presents the story of why Russ and the Lion fought and the actually duel between the primarchs on Dulan. The second is the Empire of Faash. It had some great weaponry, vessels, and forts. The Interference weapons are very powerful.

One of the best!

Great story keeping your interest all the way delving into all of the mysterious parts of the wolves history that keep being hinted at or referenced in other books, while dropping its own hints for future story arcs. Leaves you smiling at the end, listen to it :)

Great book, but be caoutious!

Beware, there are SPOILERS for The Horus Heresy! As it is usual with the Warhammer books, this was is superb, in terms of writing and narration. Jonathan Keeble is on of th best. But, if you are like myself somewhere in the middle of The Horus Heresy sequel, be wary of the last chapter. There are some SPOILERS! at the end, and I found myself regretting going through it and depriving myself of some unexpected eventualities in it. So, I hope my experience will prevent his happening to someone else.

Not really a Primarch story.

Overall this is a great listen/read, well voiced and acted and very atmospheric.
I was hoping it would be more about Leman himself as the story of the great wolf king. not a lore story which every 40k fan knows.
very enjoyable but not what I was expecting.
