Publisher's summary

Somewhere out in the woods an otherworldly creature born of fire and hate lurks. When the beast emerges, lusting for blood, all that stands between it and the nearby town is a grief-stricken farmer. Supernatural ferocity meets backwoods ingenuity in a horror fable of good versus evil.

Spooky!

I don’t usually read many books from this genre, but I really enjoyed this one. The narration brought the story to life and held my interest throughout. The story was well thought out, complete and will keep you listening. I will be watching for this author in the future.

The best defense against a Demon Dog is a Ghost

Legend of Kill Creek Woods is a short but good tale of one mans fight against a demonic hell hound out to destroy his family. All he has left are his beloved terriers and he will need to enlist their help to stop the demon dog before it runs amok throughout the entire town.

The narrator Joe Hemple is very good and I have listened to several of his previous works and have enjoyed his narration. Joe always does a very good job.

Solid story and performance

Would you consider the audio edition of Legend of Kill Creek Woods to be better than the print version?

I'd imagine so. The narrator's accent and talent lent a note of realism.

Who was your favorite character and why?

The unnamed farmer. His strughles and loss leave you relating to or at least rooting for him.

What about Joe Hempel’s performance did you like?

His accent fit the character well, not as much southern as rural, maybe.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

A man who loses everything can still have vengeance. Or (on a liter note): BEWARE OF DOG!

love it

Would you consider the audio edition of Legend of Kill Creek Woods to be better than the print version?

as much as i love books being read to by Joe is so much fun i really loved it a lot.

What did you like best about this story?

I loved how much i related to the main character and his need to do what is right combined with the distrust that what he is trying will work. He just keeps doing research to find a good supernatural way to take on the hell beast that butchered his entire life.

What does Joe Hempel bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I enjoy his voice and really like being read to. sometimes you just can visualize things more when being read a book instead of having eyes open while reading it.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I cried when his bitch terrier died. He had just lost his entire family, and she had given birth to pups just to die gruesomely at the claws and jaws of a hellbeast monster.

Any additional comments?

Loved the mythology and occult themes in this book 10/10 for me!

reminiscent of campfire ghost stories

The Legend of Kill Creek Woods is the story about a simple man, one who we never learn his name, who breeds dogs. Has a family. Lives, one might say, a very content life. Until, that is, everything is torn apart. His wife and son are killed, then his best friend or possession, depending on how you look at it, his prized bitch.

Left with the last litter of puppies. The man is obsessed with finding who or what killed his beloved family. Then one night the killer finds him. Thus begins a short cat and mouse game, each switching roles from time to time. Until only the victor remains.

This was reminiscent of the ghost stories that my parents told me while sitting around the campfire when I was a kid. Them trying to scare the pants off of me so I would have a restless night sleeping alone in my tent. Jumping at every little sound I would hear.

Quite an entertaining listen that ended in a way that I didn't think would happen, and in a way that I loved. Worth the lmost two hours of listening time to be creeped out for most of it.

Joe Hempel did a decent job with this performance. Adding in a slight southern accent that made it seem even more real. At time I didn't agree with his pacing changes. He more than made up for this with the intensity of which he read. Bringing the terror that the man was going through to life. Hempel has a voice that one might not associate with the term narrator. As he sounds like a normal everyman. This only adds to the wonder that is created telling the authors folk lore.

Legend of Kill Creek

This is a really good novella in the horror genre.Joe Hemple does a wonderful job narrating from the viewpoint of the farmer. After losing his family to different circumstances a farmer faces down the creature in the woods that may have killed his youngest child. With his dog by his side he gives it a good whipping but it isn't enough. He tries to save the town by learning everything he can to defeat the beasts. Will it be enough?

Terrific!

"Legend of Kill Creek Woods" by Brett Williams is a man-against-monster novella, not my usual fare. The main character, an unnamed middle-aged man living in the woods of an unnamed location, attempts to destroy a large, murderous devil hound immune to his rifle bullets. The violent story contains death scenes involving innocent people, even children, so it is not for the squeamish. The high octane battles between the two combatants kept me fully engaged from start to finish. Highly recommended. Book given free in exchange for honest review.

Dog Gone I enjoyed this fable!

This story was more than I thought it was going to be. I ended up "reading" the complete 4 hr. tale in one setting instead of a easy car listen. Being an animal lover, I was a little upset with the end - but it is billed as a legend and all legends have to have something weird!
