Publisher's Summary

From celebrated New York Times bestselling author Luanne Rice comes a riveting story of a seaside community shaken by a violent crime and a tragic loss.

Years ago, Beth Lathrop and her sister Kate suffered what they thought would be the worst tragedy of their lives the night both the famous painting Moonlight and their mother were taken. The detective assigned to the case, Conor Reid, swore to protect the sisters from then on.

Beth moved on, throwing herself fully into the art world, running the family gallery, and raising a beautiful daughter with her husband Pete. Kate, instead, retreated into herself and took to the skies as a pilot, always on the run. When Beth is found strangled in her home, and Moonlight goes missing again, Detective Reid can’t help but feel a sense of déjà vu.

Reid immediately suspects Beth’s husband, whose affair is a poorly kept secret. He has an airtight alibi - but he also has a motive, and the evidence seems to point to him. Kate and Reid, along with the sisters’ closest childhood friends, struggle to make sense of Beth’s death, but they only find more questions: Who else would have wanted Beth dead? What’s the significance of Moonlight?

Twenty years ago, Reid vowed to protect Beth and Kate - and he’s failed. Now solving the case is turning into an obsession....

Weird book

Audible review- “Said“ is the only thing I will remember, and I will avoid the author. Holy smoke, I couldn’t take it and couldn’t wait for it to end. ...and the narrator was very good but emphasized “said” every. stinking. time. There are other ways to acknowledge who spoke..., suggested, requested, advised, stated, questioned. Yikes. Sorry, you will never unhear it now! ...not to mention the story was way too long, predictable and had a silly ending

Not happy

To much of he said she said. Makes it hard fore to listen to. Can't finish listening to this book.

Said said said

I never want to hear the word said again. The author wrote a good story but it’s hard to hear anything beyond “Kate said” “sam said” “Beth said” Started to cringe after a while.

Meh.

I’m only a few chapters into this and I’m already bored enough that I felt the need to give it a review.... The story doesn’t seem to be going anywhere at all, like anywhere? Plus the homicide detective is too invested, husband is the only plausible suspect, dead sister and the remaining living sister are both uninteresting and bland characters... I could probably get past all of that and complete the book but listening to the narrator (who is fine by the way) repeatedly say “she said, he said, she asked, he replied, she said, he said” again and again and again is nails on a chalkboard to my already checked-out mind. Audiobooks are usually easy background noise while doing other tasks but this isn’t an easy ‘read’, as it feels that it’s jumping around a lot (too many character backgrounds overlapping) but at the same time doesn’t seem to be going anywhere at all.

Loved it!

Kept me guessing to the end. I loved the depth of emotion and detail the author used to bring me into this heartbreaking and bittersweet story. From each of the characters, the art work and even the setting. I didn’t want the story to end!

More of a drama fiction

This book is a drama fiction that happen around a murder case. I like the narrator but not quite like the way the author told the story. I might give 1 more star if the story shorten to 10 hours.

Take a ride on Luanne Rice's mystery machine.

Hang on as the new England coast serves as the back drop for the monied and penniless characters. And the ending is .......

Said, said, said, said

The story was good but the constant use of the word "said" was annoying! I often had to stop listening because of it!

Good read

This book started off slow and built up slowly to become a very interesting story. The end was a bit odd, but they didn't leave you hanging. Overall I would recommend this book.

Rambling

He said. She said. What they wore. What they ate. Repetitive memories. I guessed the murderer early on. I really don’t know why I listened to the end. Got so bored eventually. The whole thing dragged on for far too long.
