Publisher's Summary

A dead man’s secrets put a family in peril in a twisting novel of suspense by the Amazon Charts bestselling author of the David Adams series.

Alex Mahan is married to his high school sweetheart, Taylor. They have two daughters and a beautiful home, and Alex’s startup business is about to explode thanks to massive private funding from his compassionate and supportive father-in-law, Joe. With millions more to come, all is perfect - until Joe is abducted and murdered during a family trip in Mexico.

Alex’s world is about to be turned upside down. He can’t bear to tell his grieving wife why. The man they’ve both idolized has been keeping secrets. The pledged millions are nowhere to be found. The source of the original investment is a mystery, even to Joe’s financial adviser. No one, it seems, has any idea who the man they knew, loved, and trusted really was.

As Alex digs deeper into Joe’s shadowy life, the most shocking surprises are yet to come. Deadly ones, too, because every lie that Alex uncovers in Joe’s dark past puts his family in more danger.

Who knew good old Joe had so many secrets?
The fast action, twisting plotlines, and excellent character development are what kept me glued to Chad Zunker’s David Adams trilogy. So naturally, when I saw Zunker was writing a stand-alone novel, I ran to the pre-order button. I just as quickly finished the novel after it arrived in my library. Alex Mahan seems to have it all. He has his high school sweetheart wife, Taylor, two great daughters, and a business that is taking off thanks to his compassionate and supportive father-in-law, Joe. What better way to celebrate than a family vacation in Mexico, right? Not quite. During the trip, Joe is kidnapped and murdered. It is now up to Alex to solve the case while juggling the secrets he is discovering about his father-in-law along the way. Each secret is more and more explosive, and soon begin to threaten Alex’s life. After listening to Family Money, I sincerely asked myself, “How well do I actually know my family?” The twists and last-minute turns kept me on the edge of my seat until the end. —Patty K C., Audible Editor

Family Secrets…

I’m actually quite surprised that there are no reviews yet. This is a very good book with a plot that is a little predictable but it’s a great ride!
I don’t want to add to the publisher’s summary, it’s pretty comprehensive. This is a solid story from author Chad Zunker , who I discovered from his David Adams series (which I very Highly Recommend).
Kris Koscheski does an excellent job narrating.
This book is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Really bad. Seriously.

This sounded like a literate person who really wanted to write a book and his uncle runs the publishing house.

I’ve watched, read and listened to more than a 1000 police/mystery/espionage shows and books in my lifetime. So you learn a lot from the research those writers do. Examples here would be spoilers, but there isn’t a single common sense mention of forensics, spy craft, or knowledge of the law.

I had to listen to to it at 1.3 speed just to satisfy my curiosity about where this was all going. Really unsatisfying and a true waste of time when there are so many well-written books, by authors who do the work.

Suspense

The story had my full attention from the very beginning, I didn’t want to quit listening. It was a story about family, commitment, protection, friendship, thriller, suspense, very enjoyable.

I wanted to like this!...

...but it just didn't happen. I didn't care for the narrator... it sounded like he was trying to be dramatic when saying things like "How could this be?" but didn't quite pull it off. Also, it says it's "A Thriller" and I wouldn't classify it anything close to that. I agree with a prior reviewer that I found it hard to make myself care about the characters. I'm a little sad I used a credit on it.

Unbelievable storyline

Sorry, but I had to struggle to get through this. I felt like stopping several times. The storyline is totally unbelievable and I could build up no sympathy for the son-in-law who is telling the story. Sappy.

Narration was distracting

The narrator paused so much that the sentences failed to flow. This became a distraction as the book progressed.

Nonsensical.

An Amazon First Read pick that does not work for me. The narrator has a nice voice, however he couldn't sell me.

A Webster's Dictionary, Google of an episode or two of Dateline is all that is necessary to realize this borders on insulting realism.

A single untrained man does not take on a Cartel in my world. I'm not buying it. This is not a weird science genre.

Unbearably Maudlin

a few chapters in I already knew this was going to be a challenging listen. Sometimes we shouldn't be able to hear the main characters every thought, especially thoughts filled with so much self doubt. It was too saturated with his emoting to ever be enjoyable. Plus all the character behaviors were such a contradiction to how the book fleshed the characters out...and the reader is expected to accept this as the path to a satisfying conclusion. Lastly, what was with all the product placement? Lexus SUV, Ford Taurus, Disney princesses, etc.
I enjoyed the Same Callahan stuff, but pass on the vague, maudlin, NBC style drama world of Alex Mahan.
