Publisher's summary

"Enjoying pain with your pleasure is something you either get, or you don't. If you get it, then you don't really need it explained, because you know how good it feels, and if you don't get it then no amount of talking is going to convince you it makes sense."

But sometimes you have to explain the unexplainable, especially if the love of your life needs to understand, or she'll leave you. Jason Schuyler is one of Anita Blake's best friends and favorite werewolves, with benefits. J.J. is his lady love, an old flame from childhood who dances at one of the top ballet companies in New York. She's accomplished, beautiful, and she's crazy about him, too. Neither of them wants to be monogamous, so what could go wrong?

J.J. is enthusiastically bisexual, with an emphasis on the female side of things. She plans to keep sleeping with women, because Jason can't meet that need, just like she can't meet Jason's need for rough sex and bondage. J.J. doesn't understand why Jason isn't content to go elsewhere for a need she can't fulfil, so Jason asks Anita to help him explain.

Anita is having her own relationship growing pains with her only female lover ever, Jade. Jason suggests that J.J. might be able to help Anita with her girl problem, while she helps him with his kinky explanations. With some encouragement from a few other lovers in Anita's life she reluctantly agrees, and J. J. makes plans to fly into town for an experience that none of them will ever forget.

Laurel K. Hamilton: High Priestess of Polyamorism

"Jason" accounts for 4 hours and 44 minutes of my life that I'll never get back. I tried to think of something positive to say about this book and I have come up with nothing. LKH has quit writing adventure stories and completely moved to badly written therapy-porn. If you enjoy amateur sex therapy with clinical descriptions of mechanical sex with multiple partners and no emotional involvement or plot, dive on in. Even if you can stand pure plot-less porn, just be prepared for the sex to stop frequently for lengthy, boring rationalizations and lectures on the benefits of multiple partners. It's somewhat ironic that LKH explains ad nauseum the joys of polyamorism while simultaneously demonstrating how boring and empty it is.

This is the first time in years of listening to audiobooks that my overriding thought was sympathy for the narrator. Not even Kimberly Alexis could save this story but I do hope she was paid well. Simply Awful.

How the mighty have fallen...

What would have made Jason better?

Anyone that has followed LKH this far knows the struggle that readers have gone through in hopes that the Anita Blake story line would return to it's former glory. This short story embodies everything that has gone wrong in the series. Whinny relationship story lines. No detective work. No good vs evil. SPOILER ALERT: It's nothing but a couple of hours of lover complaints and overly graphic group sex. Anita whipping out her metaphysical phallus to make sure everyone knows she's the best at everything, even girl on girl... The story of Anita is lost and as a early fan of the series I'm disappointed.

Disappointed!

I love Anita, and Jason is my favorite but this book was 3 hours of orgy and 1 hours and 45 minutes of explaining to Anita how she feels because for some reason she is incapable of figuring out her feelings on her own. I was very sad that there wasn't any paranormal anything in this book. No Jean Claude, Asher, Richard or Edward! It wasn't even really about Jason, it was about Anita and Jade and SEX. I'm not giving up on Anita yet because I have hopes that the next full length book will be back to hunting! I love the sex in these books but I need a little story too.

Why????????

What would have made Jason better?

Anything would of improved the story. It's 4 hours of painful group sex with bad therapy

Has Jason turned you off from other books in this genre?

No. There are many great authors out there currently writing in this genre it would be silly to let one BAD book turn me from so much creativity

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

Use the same voices for the different characters as she did in the past. Jason sounded like Edward. Nathaniel sounded like he started smoking 20 packs a day. It's just too much. Consistency is why you use the same voice actor over an over. This was missing an really affected my experience

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

All of the above. WHY ???????

Where are the stories that captivated me in the beginning an middle of the series.

Any additional comments?

I have never regretted buying a audiobook before an if I could wind the clock back I wouldn't make this mistake again.

Some plot would have been nice.

Would you try another book from Laurell K. Hamilton and/or Kimberly Alexis?

No this was the last straw, I love her prose but there just isn't any more stories to tell about the superpowerful Anita Blake sex goddess. The first 10 books were awesome but it's devolved into an extended sexual fantasy with no story.

Has Jason turned you off from other books in this genre?

No but it has turned me off of one of my favorite authors.

What about Kimberly Alexis’s performance did you like?

She didn't break into fits of laughter reading the dialogue.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Severe disappointment that I paid good money for a 4.5 hour sex scene with essentially no story. And not a very good sex scene at that. The dialogue was painful.

Any additional comments?

I have no idea how Laurell K Hamilton can think she can produce this poor quality and charge her loyal readers for it. Should have been a freebee or kept private. Simply sad.

more of a story line

What do you think your next listen will be?

Have you listened to any of Kimberly Alexis’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

not good

Could you see Jason being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

no

Any additional comments?

I love Anita Blake but this was a waste of my time. I hope the next will be better.

Anita Does Everybody? Where did the plot go?

Would you try another book from Laurell K. Hamilton and/or Kimberly Alexis?

Laurell K. Hamilton? Not without reading the reviews first.

Kimberly Alexis' performance was the only thing that made this worthwhile.

What could Laurell K. Hamilton have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

I don't know. Maybe have a story, plot, something other than one sex scene, followed by discussion about the last sex scene, planning then next sex scene. Then the next sex scene ...

What character would you cut from Jason?

Anita. That character deserves more than being the "star" of the metaphysical version of Debbie Does Dallas

Any additional comments?

I'll read the reviews before buying next time.

Save Your Money Unless You're Just a Diehard Fan!

Would you try another book from Laurell K. Hamilton and/or Kimberly Alexis?

I've read every book in the Anita Blake series and this one is by far the worst! What's with no necromacy? No paranormal? What's happening with the "weres"? A five hour orgy and sex therapy session---I hope that the next installment in the series is a better effort from LKH than this book----it was truly disappointing and I doubt that I'm alone in my assessment and disappointment! Kimberly Alexis is splendid as always, but she couldn't salvage this one---get it together LKH!

Would you ever listen to anything by Laurell K. Hamilton again?

Of course I'm hopeful that the next one in the series is a bounce-back from this one!

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Jason?

Put the whole book on the shelf or if a movie, on the cutting/editing room floor! Totally useless!

Any additional comments?

Never thought I'd ask Audible for a refund on an Anita Blake novel but I think I deserve one for this---not a great effort, in my humble opinion!

Sad

What disappointed you about Jason?

I have read all the books in this series and I don't know about any one else who reads them. But I miss the store. Laurell K. Hamilton can write when she wants. But the last books there is less and less story. Now don't get me wrong I love smut but I love it in my drama, mystery, action now this book my have action but Im talking the kind with clothes on. You can see it when you look at the length of the books to. I would love for the next book to be a really Anita Blake novel. You know the kind were she wasn't a sheltered little piece of fluff, and could take care of her self.

Has Jason turned you off from other books in this genre?

Yes, and no I'll read the next one but If its only the smut with no story to it will be the last. I can get smut cheeper than I payed for this. Its the whole story Im after.

What about Kimberly Alexis’s performance did you like?

She was great. Even with the story reading like an after school special for lesbians. Like I said I love smut but in with the story.

What character would you cut from Jason?

I like that there are lots of characters in these books. So I wouldn't want to cut any one. But I would love to get back to basics. You know the main character from the first books. That would be awesome.

Any additional comments?

I miss Anita Blake's awesomeness. She needs to learn she can be the real her too. Not just some one that spreads her legs the whole time.
