Publisher's summary

"Pinter is in fine form with Hide Away. You’ll burn through the pages." (David Baldacci)

From the bestselling author of the Henry Parker series comes a page-turning thriller about a vigilante who’s desperate to protect her secrets - and bring a killer to justice.

On the surface, Rachel Marin is an ordinary single mother; on the inside, she’s a fierce, brilliant vigilante. After an unspeakable crime shatters her life, she changes her identity and moves to a small town in Illinois, hoping to spare her children from further trauma...or worse. But crime follows her everywhere.

When the former mayor winds up dead, Rachel can’t help but get involved. Where local detectives see suicide, she sees murder. They resent her for butting in - especially since she’s always one step ahead. But her investigative genius may be her undoing: the deeper she digs, the harder it is to keep her own secrets buried.

Her persistence makes her the target of both the cops and a killer. Meanwhile, the terrifying truth about her past threatens to come to light, and Rachel learns the hard way that she can’t trust anyone. Surrounded by danger, she must keep her steely resolve, protect her family, and stay one step ahead, or else she may become the next victim.

Critic reviews

“Featuring a strong female character out to set things right, this mystery is full of twists and turns. [Narrator Angela] Dawe keeps up with the breakneck pacing and takes the listener along for the ride.” (AudioFile Magazine)

“Pinter does a masterful job of ramping up suspense about the Marin family’s past and the current case, spinning an absolutely riveting plot with a cast of full-bodied, fallible characters, in what seems the start of a promising series. Fans of both domestic thrillers and police procedurals should get in at the start.” (Booklist, starred review)

"Pinter builds a complex plot on the dual mysteries of Constance’s murder and Rachel’s transformation from suburban mom to crack investigator and lethal streetfighter.... Pinter creates engaging characters...and keeps the suspense taut.” (Kirkus Reviews)"

I loved this book, but.......

I loved this books characters and character development and the complexity of the story. But the author's overuse of the word "said" was very distracting at times. This may not be as much of an issue in the e-book or hardback. I look forward to the next book in the series.

Definitely recommend reading

I was pleasantly surprised with this book, I normally don't listen to crime books but I definitely enjoyed this one. The author kept my attention from start to finish.

Great heroine

Very good story. The heroine was both strong and smart, although annoying to the detectives on the case. She is quick-witted and figured things out quicker than the police. She has endures her own horror and tragedy to make her tough and more inquisitive. She eventually earns respect but at a cost. Hope there are more stories with these characters: Rachel Marron and the two Detectives
Great narration as well

EXCELLENT!

Wow! I was drawn in right away and couldn't stop. There are several plots that mesh together in the end. Always some curiosity about what is not being told. I LOVED this narrator who gave all the characters some very real human emotions. She did men and women equally well and especially the little girl, whose voice never had that irritating sound that sometimes shows up when a narrator tries to sound like a child. I wanted to hug this little child, she sounded so precious. I also thought the author portrayed the police very well, their thinking and line of logic.

The protagonist is not a perfect human. She makes mistakes but not ones that make you despair of yet another female portrayed as just dumb. Her errors are what you might expect when you know the trauma she has experienced.

So, I don't understand why there aren't more reviews for this book! I have the Kindle version also but found that this narrator really brought the game up to the "excellent" level. I WILL be looking for more from Jason Pinter And I'm happy to see there is a sequel in the works!

New series from the author of Henry Parker series!

WOW, that was intense. HIDE AWAY in Book 1 in Jason Pinter's Rachel Marin Thriller series. I see that Audible listener Shelley listened to and reviewed this novel before I finished it. I suggest you read her excellent review and reward her with a helpful vote.

One does not see many Sunday book releases. This outstanding novel and the equally excellent The Killer's Wife by Victor Methos were released on the same Sunday.
