Publisher's summary

New York Times bestselling Sisters of Suspense join forces for a gripping standalone novel about a clique of popular girls whose high school friendship is marked by a tragedy that continues to haunt them decades later. Jackson and Bush take the reader’s hand and twist them through this shocking tale of suspense.

First they were five. Then they were four.

Whose turn will it be next?

At Bristol High they were an elite clique known as the Five Firsts: Amanda, Bailey, Carmen, Delta and Zora...ABCD & Z. They could have accepted their classmate, Emmy, as "E", but with her bookish disposition and her embarrassing status of scholarship student to boot, they rejected her and chose wealthy Zora instead.

At a pre-graduation party just before the end of senior year, Lance Ventura, the hottest guy in school, falls down an embankment toward the river and is barely rescued in time to save his life. One of the Five Firsts, Carman, rushes to save him, but isn't so lucky. Her sudden death causes a community to mourn and rumors of foul play to swirl, but the tragedy is ruled an accident.

Fast forward ten years and the classmates all meet again at the high school reunion. Some of them have had good fortune in their lives. Others, not so much.

Real life

So great! The characters are brought to life and they make the book!!! This is a story of high school friends, but each one is developed so well. The book does go back and forth in time but it is very easy to follow and you are never guessing what time period you are in. Would recommend if you like mysteries that surround a group of women friends.

Glad I listened to this book.

Angela Dawe is an excellent narrator for this book. High school students and teachers who are way to hormonal and 20 years later go on a murder spree.

Last girl standing disappointment

This was not the usual Lisa Jackson quality. The plot was very very slow. Not that interesting. Since hers are always exceptionally good I kept listening hoping it would catch up with her normal standard. It took me forever to finish it as it was very easy to put down at any point and was rather anti climatic.

Not for me

Did not finish - didn’t hold my interest. Not necessarily a bad book - just not what I was looking for.

disappointed

what could have been a great read didnt get started until about chapter 14. Too many chapters of teen girl nonscence. Then when the story picked up nicely disappointed again. SPOILER ALERT The ridiculous ending came too quickly & was out of the blue, disconnected from the theme and totally unrealiatic. The performance however was excellent .

Get free? Sure go ahead

If you are able to get this free it’s a decent listen. But truly there wasn’t a character in the book that was worth being invested in. Spoiled, mean girls and immature rotten boys. VERY hard to keep people straight in the beginning as you are dealing with hearing about six different teenage girls in the beginning. The narrator did a pretty decent job considering how many characters were in the book.

maybe for adolescent readers..

Not the expected suspenseful plot that I've come to expect from Lisa Jackson. The narrator was fine.

Loved it!

Great book. Well developed characters and very difficult to figure out who did it. Kept me guessing the whole time!

a little too immature

I mean the book held my attention, but all of it seemed very mean girls, even 10 to 15 years after the girls graduated. Yikes. The narration sounded scandalous and that was distracting, I have to believe that was the producer's fault. Overall the idea of the book is good, which it was about women who made better decisions as adults.

Great Read!

I loved this book. For some reason I had hesitated on purchasing this book, now I wish there was a sequel---I loved Chris McCary. It also proves......high school can be with us forever! (Please I hope not)
