Publisher's Summary

Just two years ago, the media turned Detective John Spader into a hero. He'd caught a twisted serial killer terrorizing Massachusetts, and the "Jack of Spades," as the media dubbed Spader, was born. But when the murderer walked free on a technicality - free to kill again - the public turned on Spader. Now a new serial killer is on the loose. He wears the silly, gap-toothed, grinning mask of Galaxo, Starboy Avenger! - a cartoon alien of unparalleled popularity with children. With Galaxo's body count rising, and the public's fear growing, it's up to the Jack of Spades to find the man beneath the mask and stop the killing.

Excellent modern detective novel!

I've now listened to all seven novels by James Hankins in random order. All are outstanding. THE JACK OF SPADES is set in Salem MA and is a serial murder case. Narration is superb. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Good book terrible narration

This is a really good story but the narration was very difficult to get through. The narrator makes the lead detective sound like a whiny girl. I love James had guns but he really needs to be careful who he chooses As a narrator

Enjoyed the story..

Enjoyed the story but didn't care for the narrator
He made the story weak in a way. Otherwise I would recommend it to other readers/listeners.

Cartoon or crime novel? Here you get it both.

I am a fan of well constructed intrigue, subtle language, real mystery and psychologically interesting insights into main characters. This was the first Hankins I listened to and while I thought the narration was excellent, the story could have been thought out by a kid watching too many teenage horror movies. Storyline reminded me of a bad cartoon, flat, obvious und unrealistic. I found the use of bad language disturbing (the use of f-word and s-word seem to be a preferred stylistic tool of the author). Mor of this? No, thanks. My first and last Hankins.
