Publisher's Summary

Pop music blares from the radio. She sings drunkenly from the backseat. The thrash of windscreen wipers against the driving rain. The screech of tires. A thud.

Naomi and I are best friends.

School runs, dog walks, a shoulder to cry on over a glass of wine - we’re inseparable.

But now my husband has walked out, I need her more than ever.

I know she will help me pick up the pieces.

Because she knows about the lie I told to protect her.

She knows how much I’ve sacrificed for this friendship.

And she’d never let anyone hurt me.

Would she?

This extraordinary novel will suck you in from the very first moment and keep you gripped until the breathtaking finale. Fans of The Wife Between Us, The Girl Before, and Gone Girl will adore this twisted tale of toxic female friendship.

Torturous

I have read the author's other two books and found them relatively entertaining, so I gave this one a shot. Huge mistake. The female leads are horrible, crazy people. The plot, which had a promising start, became downright ridiculous and the madness just went on and on. Still, I tried to keep going. I finally gave up three-quarters through. The narration was good, but no one could have saved this mess.

Horrible!!!!

I couldn’t even get through this one. The story Did not hold together. I am so tired of poorly written book like this. Why are there so many of them. I need to find a good book and this certainly wasn’t it.

Started out well but half way thru...

At first I liked the book but about 3/4 of the way thru it started to get silly and unrealistic. I almost stopped listening but I forged on until the end...I wish I could give a better review but I can’t, it was disappointing:(

Don’t do it

This wasn’t gripping, heart-pounding or thrilling. The characters were awful and I couldn’t wait for it to be over.

Unbelievable

No one would let themselves be blackmailed for an accident in a car they weren’t driving

What a Downer

This book starts with the "closest friend" putting her friend's dog at risk and goes downhill from there. While the author has writing skills, the story has no heart and I could not bear to finish it.

The story itself was ok bit I didn't find any part of the story suspenseful. I like thrillers and suspense so i was a bit disappointed

Very Intense Psyco-Drama

Wow. What a story and what a conclusion. Shocking, yet not, for its portrayal in many ways is very real. This could be about a neighbor across the street or the girl next door, walking and talking like a regular person, but hiding private pain and horrors within.

Really Interesting Story

I really enjoyed this book and sadly could see people in it that I have met! Whilst quite complicated it was also an easy to listen to with the lovely voice of the narrator....

Her closest friend

Awful story which could have been told in half the time. None of the characters were likeable and the ending was stupid. Story was disjointed and lacked any suspence for me. Would not recommend it.

this book is great , speaker good but congested.

the book keeps you pinned... every minute you find your self round another corner wondering how they will get out of this one!
the reader is great but has a strange nasal blockage for certain sounds- it's mild but once you hear it- you can't stop hearing it so I'm really surprised this is the final recording. there's also a strange very quiet squeeking sound starting in chapter 18... not sure if it's part of the same thing or a digital thing.

Good but not brilliant.

This was quite good and kept my interest but wasn't outstanding. The 2 main characters Naomi and Sophie were not a bit likeable, and I didn't care what happened to either of them. The narrator kept the same voice for every character so sometimes you didn't know who was talking. The book would've been so much better to listen to if there had been 2 narrators - one for Naomi and one for Sophie. The ending was a bit shocking but I still couldn't feel any empathy for any of them.
It's worth a listen, but not mind blowing!!

Frustrating in places

Whilst the premise of the book was good. No one would have put up with Sophie's behaviour! She was as mad as a box of frogs.
Then just when you think Naomi has finally found some guts.. The ending completely ruined it;very weak. A good listen but totally unbelievable and frustrating in places.

Not for me - not believable

Neither protagonist likeable, but at least Sophie believable psychopath. For me where it failed was Naomi’s disintegration. The only way I could stick with the story was speeding up the delivery halfway through (audio speed reading 😊). Second half too slow & plot line weak; lost its grip on me. Finished.

I stuck it out

But struggled to finish. Weak story. Wooden delivery. Frankly shallow, stupid characters throughout. Or just not my thing.
