Publisher's summary

Jon Reznick is a “ghost”: a black-ops specialist who takes his orders from shadowy handlers, and his salary from the US government. Still mourning the loss of his beloved wife on 9/11, he’s dispatched to carry out a high-level hit. Reznick knows only that it must look like suicide. It’s textbook.

But the target is not the man Reznick expected. The whole setup is wrong. In an instant the operation is compromised, and Reznick is on the run with the man he was sent to kill. A man wanted by the FBI, and by a mysterious terrorist organization hell-bent on bringing the United States to its knees. FBI Assistant Director Martha Meyerstein is determined to track him down, and to intercept whatever it is Reznick was sent to do.

When Reznick’s young daughter becomes a pawn in the game, he has to use more than his military training to stay one step ahead of those responsible. Meanwhile, he is the only person who knows the true extent of the threat to national security—and has the stealth and determination to stop it.

Above Average

The writing is good. Character development ok, could be better. Detail minimal. There is just enough of each element to convey the story with tension, suspense, and interest. However, there isn't enough to really add texture and depth. And while we cheer for the good guys, there really isn't enough about him, his daughter (no stories of things they did together, no memories of a birthday, Christmas shared) that the reader really doesn't get emotionally attached. I wish there was more to the characters, more descriptions of location, people .- that there was more depth and developed.

Hard Road could be a box office smash hit

While story complicated it was so well written and narrated that I could follow who was who. Lots of action and a very believable plot. Will read more of Reznick thrillers

Great read

Kept me on the edge of my seat. Kept finding ways to take my phone and listen and charge my phone at the same time.

A mixed bag

I got this book and audiobook for free as part of my Prime subscription. I’m glad I didn’t pay for it.

The story itself was pretty good, a take off on Taken, with plenty of twists, action and suspense. But the writing made the story flat. The conversations were simplistic. The descriptions two dimensional, the details lacking. The narrator did a decent job.

Good Series

This was a good series. It is heavy on the talking - talking about the details of the investigation; the IT or science or procedures or new technology, etc. behind it. And there is good action also.
I am not sure if there will be more Jon Reznick books, but this series ended well, which I greatly appreciated.

Great read and almost perfect listen..

So, Jon Reznick worked for the government as an assassin and, boy, he was a cold blooded killer. He usually went to other countries but this time he was assigned to kill an American. Which he was going to do until something didn’t feel right and he took off with his assignment until he could figure out what was going to do. He didn’t mind killing really evil men but he wasn’t feeling that from Luntz.

This story was exciting from beginning to end and I will definitely read more of the Jon Reznick series. I enjoyed every second of this book.

There was no romance or sex but the F-bomb was used 71 times, by both Reznick and Martha Meyerstein, the Assistant Director of the FBI. IMO, that kind of talk makes a “killer-type” story far more real. People who don’t like the F-bomb should do more research on these kinds of books, ask other readers’ questions about the language. I happen to like my books to be real and without that kind of language it’s just “sissified.”

AS to the narration: Jeffrey Kafer does a great job on the men’s voices but the women’s voices are still too deep. BUT that doesn’t bother me so much since I’d rather hear a deep woman’s voice than to hear a soprano man’s voice.

Not great voice for people with hearing aids.

The voice was always strong in the beginning and whispering at the end. Very annoying for me with my hearing aids.
Good story line though.
