Rick Lasky and John Salka are two of the most dynamic and inspirational leaders in the fire service. Their book, Five Alarm Leadership, is a compilation of leadership lessons learned, situations handled, decisions made, and problems solved during their combined 60-plus years of fire service experience. Also included is a special introduction by Chief (ret.) Bobby Halton, Editor-in-Chief of Fire Engineering magazine, outlining the nature of transformational leadership and its power to inspire excellence in the fire service.

I would have a hard time reading this as someone who was currently in a leadership roll or position of authority. I would recommend this book for new firefighters looking to gain experience and advice on how to perform as they move up the ranks.

This is an excellent fire department based leadership book speaking directly to a rookie fireman & all the way up the chain to the Chief.

This book is chock full of excellent advise for firefighters looking to make the next step into becoming and officer and for existing officers. The book really drives home that an officers job is not always black and white and provides excellent guidance on navigating leadership through a deep understanding of how subordinates need to be led.

Excellent Advise

Great book for leaders (new and old). It brings up many of the topics you will encounter as a leader, and some you haven’t encountered yet. Can’t recommend this book enough
