Publisher's summary

In just seven days, the world will crumble. The System's Descent will usher in a new era of chaos: wild animals mutating, monstrous creatures emerging, and the cessation of modern technology. Humanity will be left defenseless.

Drew Wright knows none of this. At least not until he is rudely ripped from his bed and thrust into a white room to undergo a taser-happy ‘Tutorial’. Turns out, he is one of a thousand randomly selected people to be forewarned of the approaching apocalypse. Now, he faces the delightful task of convincing his wife and mother of the devastation hurtling towards them.

As the System’s Descent draws near, Drew scrambles to prep supplies, fortify his home, and drag his elderly, TV-addicted mother away from her ‘shows’ long enough to listen to him. With monsters knocking at the door, how far is Drew willing to go to save those closest to him?

The dead rise to combat the encroaching darkness as Drew Wright taps into the only power that might save his loved ones—becoming Earth’s first Necromancer.

Fantastic!

Great characters, very well written. The narrator was excellent, now one of my favorite narrators (I will look for other performances by him). Highly recommend!

Avrgere

I have a few problems with this book
First the narration isn't great and a better narrator would have made the story better
Second there are religious themes discussed in the book but during the discussion there are fandemental errors in religious knowledge like not knowing God has a name for a religious person
Third the necromancey isn't focused enough for a book titled the first necromancer
It feels like the necromancey is taking a second sit behind the religion which is bad
If u want a good necro book read book of the dead

Well Done!

Not what I expected but it is a killer approach to a dark path of magic, that shows you don’t have to be a murder happy psychopath to get the job done.
Narration and cover art are well done! The story is unique in a genre that is saturated. I am looking forward to seeing where the story goes!

really enjoyable system novel

ive listened to literally thousands of books and I must say it just feels a bit cooler listening to a book in my favorite genre where the location is based on where I grew up. it brings it to life in a whole new way.
yes I have a little bias because of that attachment but I will say it's one of the better system novels I've read in a while and I buy pretty much all of them I come across.
the mc is relatable and funny. he isn't the smartest person around but he isn't a slouch either. his decisions make sense and he isn't a push over.
it's worth the credit for any system fans

The funny referrals

I love the fact that it refers to another book that I read the whole idea of Frank the ax is funny how it gets calmed when it's soothed and put in beer just because of the bubbles

Not the typical MC

I've been getting tired of "system apocalypse" books lately, but this one was a refreshing take on the concept. I usually struggle to relate with the protagonist in his early twenties with no attachments, but this one had me laughing at the familiarity in the opening paragraphs (particularly the remarks about his earplugs and blankets).
I think the main character did a much better job than I could have done in the same circumstances (I won't spoil it for anyone). Honestly, he made very few choices that I disagreed with. I'm sure I would have done things differently, but given the MC's logic, I probably would not have done as well.
The rest of the book was very compelling, too. Even though it was a nice, long listen (worth the credit!), I was disappointed to hear that I had reached the end. I'm very much looking forward to the next one!

It’s okay

The story is very average and the necromancy takes a back seat. Not sure if I’d pick up the second book.
