Publisher's summary

In pre-war Prague, the dreams of two young lovers are shattered when they are separated by the Nazi invasion. Then, decades later, thousands of miles away in New York, there's an inescapable glance of recognition between two strangers. Providence is giving Lenka and Josef one more chance. From the glamorous ease of life in Prague before the Occupation, to the horrors of Nazi Europe, The Lost Wife explores the power of first love, the resilience of the human spirit, and the strength of memory.

great book

loved the storyline, so heartbreaking though I wish the ending had a little more of Laney and Joseph together especially after all those years apart

Good book, eye opening!!

Inspiring, courageous, and motivating! Great read, very worth the money and will read similar books in the future.
Interesting to know some of the characters were based on real people.

once you get into it

I admit to struggling through the first 20-25 chapters but then the story started coming alive for me. the narration was perfect. I cried at the end I was so caughtt up in the story.

An emotional rendition

Loved the entire book. A very emotional story. The characters were very real & well portrayed. The only complaint I had is the way it ended. We became so invested in the love story only to be left short of the completion of their reunion. I wanted a bit more. Excellent narrators, however!

Captivating

This is a gripping story that captures the essence of life during the time of Hitler. The book is thought-provoking, heartbreaking and heartwarming. It offers perspective on how quickly the quality of our lives can change and what the human spirt can endure. I have not read such a compelling, thought provoking book in a very long time. I would definitely look for another book by this author. Well done.

Beautifully Written!

“A world of heartache.” A phrase spoken within this novel, and you truly feel the heartache of the characters.

I felt this story was beautifully written and narrated. The characters came to life, and I could feel their pain and I admired the tenacity of each one of them.

I would highly recommend!

One of the best books ever

I have read many WW2 period books set during a time of religious and ethnic persecution, the Italian and French resistance, the rise of Hitler and Mussolini, but I became emotionally invested in this one. At this time, when Jewish people are being accosted in the streets of the United States by haters of Jews while the so called socially righteous left looks on uninterested, the hypocrite Hollywood actors and producers stay quiet, and mainstream news outlets look the other way, I shutter to think what has become of us. I am neither Jewish nor have I ever known even remotely anyone persecuted by the SS and Nazis in Germany, but if this is the way it started over 80 years ago God help us all.
I did not mean this to be a political diatribe, but I could not overlook the parallels I am seeing. This book is not to be missed!

Great Story with my 2 favorite narrators!

I LOVE historical fiction - especially of the WWII era. This is a great story (parts of which are true) intertwined with historical facts. My 2 favorite narrators make this an even better listen.

Incredible & emotional

I wasn’t expecting to get drawn in to this story but it completely and utterly captivated me right from the start. The deeper into the story it got, the more involved I became and cried many times in the last few hours, which is rare for me in an audio book. I want to listen to more of Alyson Richman’s novels!
