A #1
New York Times bestseller, Wall Street Journal Best Book of the Year, and soon to be a major motion picture, this unforgettable novel of love and strength in the face of war has enthralled a generation.

With courage, grace, and powerful insight, bestselling author Kristin Hannah captures the epic panorama of World War II and illuminates an intimate part of history seldom seen: the women's war. The Nightingale tells the stories of two sisters, separated by years and experience, by ideals, passion and circumstance, each embarking on her own dangerous path toward survival, love, and freedom in German-occupied, war-torn France—a heartbreakingly beautiful novel that celebrates the resilience of the human spirit and the durability of women. It is a novel for everyone, a novel for a lifetime.

The spirited (but friendly) debate over these titles could have gone on indefinitely. With years of listening, countless customer reviews, and a catalog of seemingly infinite great listens, 100 suddenly felt like a very small number. What we know for sure—each title that made it to this collection is elevated and made special in some way by audio, whether by a layered performance from a single narrator, a brilliantly cohesive full cast, original music, or immersive sound effects. Full time doctoral studies and full time work leaves no time for reading. I bought this book on Audible and it would keep me company on my hour commute to and from work. The story line is great-I can identify with Isabel, with her speak before thinking attitude.

I found myself laughing, crying, dropping my jaw in shock and disgust and didn't want to stop listening. I wish the book didn't end.

I highly recommend this book on Audible. The different character voices and current pronunciation of French words was better than I could have attempted!
You won't regret it.

Kristin Hannah's book, The Nightingale was fabulous. The characters absolutely came alive for me. I could not stop listening. I was transported to France during Hitler's regime. I laughed and cried, and people in cars next to me must have thought I was nuts! Great job Ms. Hannah. Polly Stone's narration was exceptional.

Fabulous

Unpredictable plot twist undisclosed until the not-bitter end. Intriguing, well researched story filled with details for any historian but lined with enough emotion and strong characters to stick with it as long as it lasts.

Great story, historically based, gripping

The book took off about half way through. The story became intense and dark, relatively speaking. I wasn't expecting so much about the Nazi's - although it's clearly says its a WWll story in the Publishers Review. In historical fiction I prefer more fiction loosely based in history. Still it was a very good story with the redemption one hopes. The narrator is very good and compelling.
