Publisher's Summary

Having recovered from the wounds of battle and having won for himself a fortune, a crew, and a longship, Thorgrim Night Wolf makes ready to leave the Viking town of Dubh-linn for the long journey back to his home in Norway. But the gods have other plans, and Thorgrim and his men wash up in the small Viking longphort of Vík-ló. Thinking themselves among friends, they soon learn that the opposite is true - that Grimarr Giant, the Lord of Vík-ló, has reason to want Thorgrim and his son, Harald, dead. In a world where they cannot tell friend from foe, a world of violence at sea and on land, Thorgrim, Harald, Ornolf, Starri, and their band of Norsemen find themselves once again fighting not just for plunder but for their very survival.

Five stars

Nelson has outdone himself with this one. He masterfully laid the foundation in the previous book for the drama in this one. The narration, as always, was superb.

Slower start, but picks up very well

Very thrilling once you get past all the seamanship details and story setup. As with the other books, there are multiple sides to every conflict.

as if the author was in that shield wall

loved the story - the twists are not superfluous but rather very logical - one of the most convincing sagas there is.

A great continuation

James Nelson has continued the Norsman Saga with The Lord of Vik-Lo, and Shaun Grindell has shown an improved narration.
And now onto the next saga!

Viking Valor, Vengeance, and Vindication

I did not expect the story to carry forward with the strength of description, continuity of plot, and complete closure without trite wrap ups. The writing did not disappoint. Oh, I lied. I was disappointed that it ended.

Superb

Increasingly this author proves head and shoulders above his contemporaries.
The standard equals the classic writers and works and defies the apparent trend toward universal dumbing down. It's also a compelling and plausible story.
