I like the first book better

This book wasn't bad, a good portion of it was made up two battles, and it was nothing but frustrating for me to listen to. The main character was describing the battle going on around him without doing anything himself. He had obvious goals to complete, but in some cases after chapters go by of him describing what is happening around him, the battle ends with him running off into the mist to kill some of the leftovers, no details he just returns and the game-like interface explains the rewards he gets for completing the side quests. You have to assume... Some of the stupid mistakes he makes are obvious, I have no doubt anyone who reads or listens to the story will bang their own head. I feel the main character is smart but the writer for some reason allows him to step out of character for the added drama. I wasn't going to buy the next book, but I found myself wondering what happen next, Gawd! I'm hooked, much to my dismay. ARG! oh well, see you in the next one. :)

Keeps you wanting more!

Nick Podehl does an amazing job brining Aleron Kong's characters and world to life again making that just 5 more min before bed turn into hours. I continue to love the sarcastic humor between Richter and Sion. This book has it all video game / role playing game mechanics, amazing characters, dungeons, and monsters to kill.

i liked every single thing about it. the fact richter goes from irl to living a rpg out is pretty coo. first litrpg ive listened to.

Who was your favorite character and why?

richter obviously, now i have only listened to the first two books as i dont have time to sit and enjoy a book.

Which character – as performed by Nick Podehl – was your favorite?

krom the blacksmith. pretty funny and when you picture the dwarf as he goes on it is even better.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

i laughed at many points and was moved by some things. no tears though i dont cry

Loved it!

I finished Listening to Forging earlier this week, so now I'm re-re-re-re-re-re-reading the rest of the series on E-book. Waiting oh so patiently while my Favorite M.D./Author speed writes my next prescription of The Land. Nick Podehl did an amazing job narrating.

Bring the rest of the series to Audible!

My only complaint is that the books are not longer. Nick does an amazing job bringing the character to life. The story keeps me wanting more. Plenty of laugh out loud moments. I really hope the rest of the series gets here faster.

Still loving it

Really enjoy this series. Read the books first as e-books and now I'm going back and listening to them as audio. Very much looking forward to the rest of the series coming to audible and the 7th book, which is coming out soon. Crossing my fingers that by the 8th book, ebook and audible version will release simultaneously. Also, the author Aleron Kong, really churns out the novels, so as a reader, you have confidence it won't be years in between releases. It's more like months. The main character is evolving nicely, but I'd love to see some more deeper relationships evolve for him. His relationship with Sion is great and you really feel that sense of camaraderie. Eventually you get the same with Terrod and Krom but I feel like the relationships with the females are a bit more superficial and not well fleshed out (mostly simple flirtation and so on). But the series appears to be setting up for a lengthy run of novels, so here's to hoping those will come. Here's hoping for some strong and prominent female characters.

Nick Podehl continues to be an outstanding narrator with a great range of voices that he lends to the characters. He also just has an excellent feel for pacing as he reads the book. Can't recommend him as a narrator enough.

I personally feel the series rewards my continued investment as a reader and honestly, that's what I'm looking for anytime I start a book.

expands upon the first exceptionally

Begins right where the first left off. The story picks up the pace dramatically.

Richter develops his powers and his village in this installment. In addition, he learns of several looming threats in the distance.

It never slows down and I love it.

Can’t get enough!

At first I struggled to get into this... the first book took me a lot longer than expected to get through due to work commitments, once I’d got a few hours I just couldn’t get enough! Now I’ve found my self finishing the second book in a few days and I’m purchasing the third as we speak!

Dungeon filler

While I definitely enjoyed the book, I can’t help but think that the majority of the book felt like a filler installment, as a lot of the book was dedicated to a pretty ”side-quest”-feeling dungeon, that they explored every inch of. Also hard to not be bothered by how the main character always just acts on a whim, not really consulting anyone, despite the many times those types of actions being big mistakes (which he admits and are ashamed of, but continues to act the same way)

Fun, exciting and captivating adventures

An absolute joy to listen and follow along to that gets me excited for the next entry in the series. I can't help but fall in love with the characters sand laugh at the friendly banter and mateship, and I'm always surprised at the unexpected twists and outcomes of the plot.

A great fantasy adventure for gamers and non games

Im a self confessed gaming novice, and the only book series I've ever read was Harry potter. I decided to give this series ago as a had a free audible voucher.... and what an adventure it's been so far! I found myself joining audible and buying the next one,and the next one.

The main character is relatable and the story and setting a good dive into fantasy without being to heavy or hard to follow and understand.

I recommend this series to people after a good adventure, who are into RPGs or games in general or someone who isn't into games but like a good story.

The narrator dose a very good job of painting a mental picture aswell. His character voicing and overall flow is smooth and believable. Well done!

Enjoy!!

One of the best

If you could sum up The Land: Forging in three words, what would they be?

Action Packed, Engaging and Character driven!

What does Nick Podehl bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

His style complements these books, bringing the characters to life with unique personalities in his reading style.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

The jokes and attitudes of the characters are relatable thus caused me to laugh a lot.

Rough edges but addicting and nostalgic.

Where does The Land: Forging rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

With streamlining on stat page reading and some smarter moral discussion it would be TOP.

Any additional comments?

The main character walks a fine line in a new world between building a Moral Compass and Kill & Explore. He's owns values such as freedom>family, family>morals, and security>freedom; then kicks in the gamer which is Fun>Security which acts as the catalyst to loss and eventual character depth.
