Publisher's summary

The title story of this collection - a devilishly ironic riff on H. P. Lovecraft's "Pickman's Model" - was nominated for a World Fantasy Award, while "Probiscus" was nominated for an International Horror Guild award and reprinted in The Year's Best Fantasy and Horror 19. In addition to his previously published work, this collection contains an original story.

Love Ray Porter

I mostly enjoyed this book. Only disliked one story but Ray Porters narration carried me through. The other stories were good.

Real Review

Laird is never boring!

(The other review, or SPAM, by Zachary cannot be authentic, If it is real, then it was likely written by a child with zero attention span. )

Like all of Laird’s short story collections, this book is fun, creepy, and quick to disturb in unexpected ways. It is a fast read. And better than King, If you’ve read all of Lovecraft and need more, Laird will satisfy. This book, along with Scott Kenemore’s Grand Hotel, is one of the best contemporary short horror story collections.

Great collection!

The old gods, body terror & cosmic horror.
Really enjoyable listening if this is what you’re looking for. I do like the narrator but it tends to be hard to differentiate hard to differentiate between stories when they all sound like the same person. Maybe I’m not being clear.

Fantastically creepy

I’m a sucker when it comes to eldritch horror, and the Imago Sequence certainly didn’t disappoint.

One of the best horror audiobooks of all time.

I absolutely loved this book and the narration as well. This is one of the most well written horror anthologies I've ever read.

Ray Porter

Ray Porter is a fantastic narrator. Laird Barron absolutely delivers with his brand of creepy tales and Porter does a wonderful job bringing the stories to life.

Imperfect

Way too much exposition. I found myself constantly drifting off which almost never happens. Lovecraft was also big on exposition but I never lost concentration on the story with his work. Here I found myself constantly rewinding even starting over from the beginning. This was a serious hindrance but ultimately rewarding. The stories have elaborate and interesting plots.

Hard to follow at times

I liked a few of the stories in this book, however some of the stories were so hard to follow I had to constantly go back and re-listen. Think the author was trying to dazzle us with brilliance a little too much and veered away from a good listen.
