There's an underground black market for arcane things. Akin to the trade in rhino horns or tiger bones, this network traffics in remains of gryphons, faeries, goblins, and other fantastic creatures. When her fiance Vince goes missing, Angela Gough, an American criminology student, discovers he was a part of this secretive trade. It's a big-money business-shadowy, brutal, and sometimes fatal. Publisher's summary
You are probably sitting in your home, or at your office, reading this. Who is reading these words? You hear the voice in your head, but is it my voice? Is it your own voice? Are you sure? Look around you. The other people; what is behind their eyes? What if you are wrong? Maybe you have never worried about this before. Maybe you should start.
Scientists, computer experts and the military work in isolation; their motives, some benign, some darker, hidden from one another. Something is going wrong, however - an unknown element, ethereal and subtle is moving amongst them. This could be the future of mankind, or it could be our final chapter.

In super-hero comics, graphic novels, films, TV series, video games, and even works of what may be fiction, they are besieged by those who stand against them, devoid of sympathy for their irrational, megalomaniacal impulses to rule, destroy, or otherwise dominate the world as we know it. Everyone says Lauren Tranter is exhausted, that she needs rest. And they're right; with newborn twins, Morgan and Riley, she's never been more tired in her life. But she knows what she saw: that night, in her hospital room, a woman tried to take her babies and replace them with her own...creatures. Yet when the police arrived, they saw no one. But when they're found, something is different about them.

Story
The Carnacki institute exists to do something about ghosts. Lay them to rest, send them packing, or kick their nasty ectoplasmic arses with extreme prejudice. The institute’s operatives are the best of the best. JC Chance: sharp, brave, charming, and almost unbearably arrogant; Melody Chambers: science geek, techno-wizard extraordinaire who keeps the antisupernatual equipment running smoothly; and Happy Jack Palmer: the telepath with the gloomy disposition, the last person anyone would want navigating through their head.

A Bit More Biblical than I Expected
Would you try another book from Matt Hayes and/or Matt Hayes?
I'm not sure I'd try another book by this author.
Has The Good and Evil Angels turned you off from other books in this genre?
No, it hasn't turned me off from other books in this genre. The title and concept veered away from its initial premise somewhere after the first few chapters.
What do you think the narrator could have done better?
Using a smoother cadence rather than a "pulpit" lilt would have helped the listener transition from one set of concepts to the next without wondering if they were about to hear a sermon.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
Probably not.
Any additional comments?
The concept was a good one and there are a lot of written records to draw from (which the author did in the beginning of the book) without referring to Biblical connotations. Angels, through the author's own admission early on, were not a Christian phenomenon only.
Something went wrong. Please try again in a few minutes.
