I loved the narrator's. they're acting was absolutely amazing! My only complaint is there are no titles. You really need to know pose Works to know what stories they are.

"No titles given to intro the stories. "

I enjoyed it, but they did not read an introduction to the stories so you aren't sure what you are listening to. Only way to know you are on to a different story is the change in narrator.

    "Audio File Nearly Useless"
Would you try another book from Edgar Allan Poe and/or Vincent Price and Basil Rathbone ?

    Absolutely

What did you like best about this story?

Its Edgar Allan Poe and Vince Price!

Have you listened to any of Vincent Price and Basil Rathbone ’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes and its beautiful like always.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

There is nothing wrong with this book itself. Its the audio file that is awful.

    Any additional comments?

This is a dream combination of authors and narrators! However the audio file itself is almost useless. There are no titles given for each entry so you simply have to know as a Poe fan which story you are listening to. Also for at least the house of usher section it is not the whole story. I'm aware this audio collection was originally sold my barns and noble so i don't know if something had to be cut out to avoid copy right issues but i'll be returning this book shortly because of the quality of the file.

It would have been nice if each story had its own chapter. Other than that, it was perfect.

"who doesn't like Edgar Allen Poe. ...."

Especially when read by the fantabulous Vincent Price and Borris Karloff. if all narraters put as much heart, soul and emotion into their reading of books, it would make every audio book sooooooo much better. :-D

I really enjoy creepy, dark stories. No one wrote them better than Poe. And the narration by Vincent Price and Basil Rathbone is masterful!

If you could sum up The Edgar Allan Poe Audio Collection in three words, what would they be?

    Creepy
    Fantastic
    Macabra

What other book might you compare The Edgar Allan Poe Audio Collection to and why?

There is not comparison to AEP.

    Which scene was your favorite?

    So many!

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

    Anytime Vincent Price speaks.

    Any additional comments?

Vincent Price and Basil Rathbone reading Edgar Allan Poe is just awesome! Being a fan of Hammer Horror movies, this is just a treat. I loved this reading. I can't wait to listen to it again in October!

    "Almost perfect but..."

I absolutely loved this, Edgar Allan Poe's stories are timeless, and you couldn't ask for more perfect narrators...HOWEVER, it would be so helpful if each chapter actually corresponded to each story and there was more info available such as the name of each story and who was narrating it. This is a failure on audibles part and by no means a reflection on the audio book itself.

    "Master Recitals!"

Basil Rathbone and Vincent Price both attack these texts of the Legend himself, Mr Edgar Allen Poe. These are all absolutely outstanding performances that are beyond criticism. Never again will we be able to hear such eloquent performances. Modern voices have lost much in terms of dramatic expression. Mr Rathbone and Mr Price can never be repeated.

Poe's works were meant to be read outloud. The textures of his prose and verse are highly stylized and individualistic. If we appreciate when these were actually written we will understand that Poe was a master of language. He was a phenomenon in that his prose is still sounding so modern. Among his peers he is strikingly modernist and evolutionary in American Literature.

Poe is an author and poet one can read time and time again. You will never tire of these stories and they can keep you pleasantly haunted on constant return trips into the dark yet, by today's standards, quite moral imagination of Mr Poe.

    "A pleasant surprise!"
Would you consider the audio edition of The Edgar Allan Poe Audio Collection to be better than the print version?

Yes - professional intonation and emphasis brings to life the written word

What did you like best about this story?

Variety of both form and content

What does Vincent Price and Basil Rathbone bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

Delivery in a way that I would never "hear in my head" when I read the books - hugely but appropriately emphasised senses of drama, tension, horror and madness - excellent performances

    Any additional comments?

I only got this as I love the poem "The Raven", but listened to everything else and loved it all - some well known stories and texts were really given a new lease of life and made more accessible through amazing performances by Price and Rathbone - I really love Poe's style of writing and use of language - this is even more pleasurable when spoken - very enjoyable listening experience!!

    "excellent fun except for editing"

the performances as good as one would expect, deliciously hammy especially from Price. only criticism is that often several poems stories bunged into one chapter, and the readers often don't announce title of the piece which makes it difficult to navigate. Audible should do this better.

    "Weird"

It was ok. I am not a huge fan of poems in general and I think that is what disappointed me here. Some of the stories are pretty good but I did not click with his style. The narrators were pretty unremarkable as well. Not my favourite.

"Classic literature by classic characters, but...."
Would you listen to The Edgar Allan Poe Audio Collection again? Why?

    Yes

What did you like best about this story?

    Some of Poe's finest.

    Any additional comments?

As with quite a few audio books I've listened to now the chapters of the audiobook represent downloaded chunks of data and not chapters in a book sense. It can be infuriatingly difficult to find the start of the desired story or poem until you've listened a few times RW and FW a few times. Some other kind reviewers, with more patience than I, have detailed the poems/stories and their start times on other previous reviews.....

"A collection of poetry and stories beautifully read read but appallingly difficult to access"

Purchased My first Audible book of short stories and poetry. I don't know if all Poetry volumes are sold in this format but all you get in this volume is the book title and numbered chapters with no information on the contents. To access a particular poem you have flash forward through hours of content. The Audible novels are a pleasure to use but Edgar Alan Poe Audible book turns a normally pleasant experience into an ordeal
