“An endearing celebration of life.” -RealSimple.com

Perfect for fans of A Man Called Ove, this curiously charming debut follows a lovable widower and his life-changing adventure of love and self-discovery.

Sixty-nine-year-old Arthur Pepper lives a simple life. He gets out of bed at precisely 7:30 a.m., just as he did when his wife, Miriam, was alive. He dresses in the same gray slacks and mustard sweater vest, waters his fern, Frederica, and heads out to his garden.

But on the one-year anniversary of Miriam’s death, something changes. Sorting through Miriam’s possessions, Arthur finds an exquisite gold charm bracelet he’s never seen before. What follows is a surprising and unforgettable odyssey that takes Arthur from London to Paris and as far as India in an epic quest to find out the truth about his wife’s secret life before they met—a journey that leads him to find hope and healing in the most unexpected places.

Featuring an unforgettable cast of characters with big hearts and irresistible flaws, The Curious Charms of Arthur Pepper is a joyous reminder of life’s infinite possibilities.

This book is like a stroll with Arthur Pepper, seeing the world through his eyes... his daily routines alone and the slow decline of his relationships with his children as they live their own lives. It's a sweet story that despite his age, new experiences are bringing about changes in perspective and behaviors for Arthur. Towards the end, the climax of the story includes some melodramatic dialogue. Otherwise, it's a light, touching story.

Light, sweet story

This novel kept my attention with mystery, relationships and wondering how it would develop. I enjoyed it and will read it again in time.

That said, This book isn’t for the young It’s for all of us who are aging and beginning to lose loved ones to death. No its not dreary, though you may think so at first. Then unfolds into a many-faceted tale of what can happen when one man stops hiding from life and starts moving on. I enjoyed it greatly. It stirred up many emotions since I am aging. Best of all it shows me I can live, love, create and stay open to each new day

This is a nice, thoughtful story about a widow were coming out of his shell and chasing down the history of his wife prior to their marriage. It’s not the sort of book that I would have chase down on my own but once I started listening to it, I was hooked and enjoyed the whole thing

Nice pleasant understated sort of book, Well worth the read

Arthur Pepper is an elderly man who, a year later, still grieves for his wife of 40 years. While cleaning out her belongings, he discovers a mysterious bracelet, and while attempting to know where it came from, learns perhaps more than he wants to know about the life his wife led before him. Battling self-doubt and regret, Arthur goes on a raucous adventure that leads him to realize he can still make meaningful connections and live a fulfilling life, even though the best part of his life has ended. Emotional, sweet, and an enjoyable feel-good story.

Cute, coming-of-old-age story
