Not your run of the mill western

I am not a fan of westerns, but this is a great story... a must-read!

Great story even for the length.

Easy to keep up with even between breaks. It is long but the character building requires it and the rhythm building and story telling is perfect.

Lonesome Dove is Great!

What did you love best about Lonesome Dove?

Insight into the thoughts and feelings of the characters just is not the same when watching a movie.

I loved the movie, but the book is far ahead!

What did you like best about this story?

I love westerns anyway, so I begin biased.

However, the way this story is told, the way it unfolds, the way Lee Horsley portrays the characters is superb.

Have you listened to any of Lee Horsley’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This is the first time I have heard Lee Horsley's portrayal of a book.

I look forward to hearing more.

Any additional comments?

Throughout the book, I appreciated the characters still referring to the Captain.

It's a sign of respect for the man to have still been recognized with his rank once his official tour of duty was over.

Lee Horsley is perfect!

Nothing else I have read has brought to life the Old West like McMurtry's Lonesome Dove! I could practically taste the steak and beans cooked on the campfire. I could see the herds of buffalo. I could feel the sting of the dust on my face. I live in Colorado and all around me is the evidence of life in this era so the book made my home more intriguing.

Each character was unique, likable and very real. I liked the people McMurtry introduced to me well enough that I plan to look for the second book in the series very soon.

Lee Horsley is incredible in this book. His voices for the various characters are very distinct and really brought the book to life. I never struggled to know who was speaking. I was enchanted by both the book and the narration

Superb story!

Such an unbelievable story. You fall in love with the characters so easily and then narration takes you through such such immersive character development that by the end of the book you're sobbing. My only complaint is that this is an old audiobook so the volume level is quite low so you really have to turn up your speakers in order to hear it well.

Amazing

Just trust me and listen to this. It's a great story and the narration is perfect. I wish the same man had read the rest of the series!
