Publisher's Summary

In Matheson's vampire classic I Am Legend, a plague has decimated the world and transformed the unfortunate survivors into bloodthirsty creatures of the night. Robert Neville is the last living man on Earth. Every other man, woman, and child has become a vampire hungry for Neville's blood. By day he is the hunter, stalking the sleeping undead through the abandoned ruins of civilization. By night he barricades himself in his home and prays for the dawn. How long can one man survive in a world of vampires?

This recording also includes a sampling of other horror stories by Richard Matheson, some comic, all scary: "Buried Talents", "The Near Departed", "Prey", "Witch War", "Dance of the Dead", "Dress of White Silk", "Mad House", "The Funeral", "From Shadowed Places", and "Person to Person".

I am legend was an interesting listen, the rest no

the additional short stories seemingly of the same genre were no where's near the quality and seemed diluted, and difficult to finish

Loved I Am Legend, not the rest

I Am Legend was great. Although, I’m a little upset by the ending. The rest, short stories are not my thing.

Not what I expected

if you are expecting the movie, turn around now. if you want an original take on vampires continue on. the story itself is an interesting take on a post epidemic lonely mind. the short stories that follow are hit and miss, some are attention grabbing and trippy while the others are, to me, completely rabbit trails away from reality itself.

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz, snort,,, zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

I Am Legend was pretty good, but the movie is better (I can count the # of times I've said the movie is better than the book on 1 hand). The remaining stories varied from silly to huh? to something to listen to if you need help falling to sleep. I have written stories much better, & this guy gets a movie made out of the only one that is readable by anyone with a semblance of intelligence?
Some of the stories reminded me vaguely of Lovecraft, on a very bad drunk. Left me wondering why I had purchased this book despite the reviews & wishing I had gotten the version with I Am Legend only.
The narrator seems good at reading a very limited range of voices, making books with more than 2 or 3 characters a poor choice for this particular narrator.
Do yourself a favor and buy the version without the sleep aids, unless that's just what you need.

Ruined by narration

If this book wasn’t for you, who do you think might enjoy it more?

People who like bad narration.

Would you be willing to try another book from Richard Matheson? Why or why not?

Yes

Would you be willing to try another one of Robertson Dean and Yuri Rasovsky ’s performances?

No, the narration of the stories after I am Legend was so bad I stopped listening.
